* Ava’s POV *
Despite having my family physically broken, it didn’t stop me from having close ties with both my parents and their new families. Sundays with my mum, and holidays were spent with my dad. That’s how it works for the last three years.
My mum’s new husband and daughter were so nice that they even made me feel like I was part of theirs.
No complaints with my step mum either. She treated me real good like her own. When I was back in Melbourne, we’d always hang out and shop together, a hobby we enjoy the most.
It’s like having two sets of parents, but I was totally fine with it.
“Hey mum!” I greeted, with the usual comforting hug we share every time I see her. On the seat beside my mum was my step sister Evie, bouncing on her chair like a baby on a highchair who can’t wait to go down so they can play. “Hello to you too, Evie!”
“Is it true?” She asked me while I was about to sit down across from mum.
“Is what true?” I asked as I have settled down on my seat. Even mum was curious to know what Evie was yapping about.
“That you’re dating Lenny Pearce of Justice Crew?” She almost yelled as it made me a bit uncomfortable seeing we actually had an audience, and they too were waiting for my confirmation. Whispers were now evident inside the restaurant my mother picked for us to meet today. “So is it? Please say yes!!” Evie didn’t mind the other customers now watching us.
To be honest, I didn’t want to assume things. Does going out with the opposite sex automatically called a date? I mean, yeah we do like each other, but does this mean we’re actually dating? Oh dear.
“Well, he’s joining us for lunch. I hope you guys don’t mind.” I uttered, smiling at them. Evie made a gesture that told everyone I was confirming Len and I are going out. I rolled my eyes.
“Of course, of course!” Evie squealed as she fixed herself, pulling out her mirror, checking if she looked fine.
“You know, Len doesn’t mind if you’re not that cute.” I teased as she glared at me, now pulling out her hairbrush.
“So what do you think of him?” Mum asked. She knows I’ve been really picky about guys I go out with, or in other words, give a chance to go out with me. Not that I was someone famous or anything. The only thing I was famous for was because I’ve been pushing away guys more than dating them.
“I really like him, mum, which is why I invited him over because I want to know what you think of him.” I explained. “See if he’s any good.”
“Go for it!” Evie encouraged me as an idea popped in my head. Never go out with Clar and Evie together, for the sake of my ears. “I approve.”
“Thanks Evie.” Even though, I knew she was only approving because she likes him… or them, meaning Justice Crew.
Just then, a familiar figure came in the restaurant’s entrance as people shifted their gazes to the front door, observing the scene as if we were filming a reality show. The minute he reached our table, my sister Evie drooled to death. Just kidding. I stood up and greeted Len with a hug, before retreating back to my seat, scooting inside the booth so there would be enough space for him.
“Hey guys, this is Lenny Pearce of Justice Crew.” I paused, telling mum and Evie who he was, possibly even mocking Evie at how he said his name earlier. “And Len, this is my mother Ruby.”
Evie gasped. “What about me?” She whispered, maybe even kicking me under the table to introduce her to Len. But I had to ignore her.
Len noticed the kicking as Evie began getting annoyed at how I was ignoring her calls. He looked at me as if to ask, but didn’t utter any word. Instead, he actually played along, getting the menu and sharing it with me as we started to look for something to order.
