Chapter 4
Misty
"Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country."
- Anais Nin
Misty skipped in the darkness, slashing randomly with her spear at the devoratrix, the evil dream demons she was sent to destroy. Misty was happy, for she was doing her two favorite things in the world at the same time: skipping and destroying. She hopped around, occasionally spinning in the air with joy. Life couldn't be better. She was not only fighting off these demons for fun, but she was helping other people in the world get a good night's rest. That is the most important virtue if you want to be skipping and destroying the next day.
After the horrid howling of the demons was nowhere to be heard, Misty kept on walking in the blackness, pushing a button on the handle of her spear. Immediately, it morphed into a ukulele, and while singing along, she began to strum.
Here comes the sun, doo doo doo doo,
Here comes the sun, and I say,
It's all right.
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter.
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here.
Here comes the sun,
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right.
"Oh please, not that!"
Misty stopped singing and pushed the button on the side of the ukulele, and it changed into a spear. Gripping it, she strained her ears for the voice.
"What? I kind of like that song myself. I'm a fan of the Beatles."
This voice sounded more like a man, definitely not the same one she had heard earlier. Misty hunched over and looked into the blackness for any sign of movement.
"I just don't like singing. What's the 'Beatles?' Is that some kind of weird bug disease?"
Misty couldn't help but gasp. Everybody has heard of the Beatles. If someone didn't, then they were no friend of hers. Misty shook her head.
"What do you mean 'some kind of weird bug disease?' You are messed up, missy."
For awhile there was only silence. Then the girl spoke.
"Who are you?"
Misty huffed and put her hands on her hips. "As if you didn't know! All mind tricks know who their opponent is! Duh!"
The male voice spoke this time. "We don't want to hurt you! We just don't know who- or what in Liz's case- you are."
Misty heard a snort. She giggled, "You sound like a pig, are you a talking pig?"
The girl shouted. "Where the hell are you?! I will find you and rip-"
The male voice cut across. "I promise we won't harm you, or I won't and I'll hold Miss Piggy here back. Just show us where you are."
Misty sighed. "Alright, follow the blue light." She held up her spear and it started to glow a white blue color.
She gasped. A boy with light brown hair and blue eyes stood in front of her, his black jacket torn on his left shoulder, though she wasn't sure why. He was taller than her and looked like a supermodel. Misty's heart did a flip.
A girl came up behind her, squinting and muttering under her breath. Her eyes were turquoise-colored and her hair was blonde. She didn't seem to happy to have a light near her.
The boy smiled and Misty felt like her heart was going to burst. "I'm Castor, experiment 11, and this is-"
The girl put her hands on her hips, "I'm Liz, experiment 12. Who the hell are you?"
Misty jumped up in the air, "Hi! I'm Misty! It's a pleasure to meet ya! I can't believe you guys are experiments too, cuz' I'm one and I've never met an experiment before, wow, this is so great, I feel like skipping around forever and destroying things, oh my gosh does this mean we're friends, wow this is so fun, hey I guess you need to know my favorite color it's purple, and I really like to sing and play all sorts of instruments I really don't like spiders but I love every other animal, and I'm experiment 9 and wow you guys look soooo bored especially you Miss Piggy and I guess I'll stop talking but not after I say that I really love sushi and what's your favorite food- "
"Shut up!" Liz held out her hand to silence her.
Castor scratched the back of his head, "Wow. You're really-"
"Fashionable, cute, funny, loveable, and AMAZING? Yes, yes I am." Misty giggled and skipped away, calling over her shoulder, "C'mon slowpokes, hurry it up!"
She could hear Liz mutter something but only caught the words, "just great, we're stuck with this" and the other words were unintelligible. Castor didn't say anything, but he did laugh, and Misty smiled from ear to ear, happy that she made some friends, even if one of them didn't like the Beatles.
