Chapter 6
Liz
"When you stop chasing your dreams, your dreams start chasing you." - Dez Del Rio
Liz was sure her mind was going to burst. She was surrounded by the most annoying people she had ever met: Cas the Stupid, Crazygirl, and Smartass. She was going nuts. Liz seemed to be the only sane one. Castor kept tripping over the stones, Misty would not shut up, and Jay occasionally figured out how far they were from where they started walking and announced it to them. Jay was also acting strange. He seemed to be "protective" of Misty. Every time she fell or was made fun of by none other than Liz herself, he would tell her not to believe her and just believe in herself. He sounded like her father.
Suddenly, Misty gasped. Jay's head swerved around immediately. His yellow-green eyes were wide and contrasted dramatically with his jet black hair. He was tall, but not exactly lanky, as his shoulders were broad and his chest wide. He was very strong, but also extremely smart, like a robot. But Liz knew that they all were robots, that was why they was here. Humans could never be able to go into dreams themselves. They'd implode.
"What are you-?"
"Oh my gosh! I'm experiment 9! That means..."
Castor and Liz stopped and looked at her questioningly. Jay just stood there, ready to spring into action.
"It means what?!" Liz said impatiently. She tapped her black boot on the stone floor, the sound reverberating in the hallway.
Misty's blue eyes looked mischievously up at her. Liz thought immediately, Oh no is she gonna sing-
"That means that I'm OLDER than you!"
A bunch of things happened at once: Castor started having a coughing fit, Jay began breathing really hard, and Liz had to steady herself on the wall to stop her head spinning. Of course, Misty started jumping up in the air.
"WOOHOO! I'm OLDER than you so you have to do what I say!"
Jay had calmed himself down a bit. "That's not entirely true."
Misty's smile faded and she looked at him, her eyes sad. "What do you mean?"
Jay gulped and walked over to her. "Misty, I don't want to be mean and hurt your feelings but-"
She bounced up in the air. "You could never hurt my feelings, J-J. You are way too adorable!" She grinned at him, her perfect white teeth glistening.
He seemed to be a bit surprised at this comment and his face turned bright red. Jay tried to continue but couldn't seem to find the right words. Liz couldn't help but smile. He really liked Misty.
"Alright, you two lovebirds," Liz said, the smile spreading wider on her face as she saw Jay's embarrassed expression, "what 'Jay-Jay' here is trying to say is that he is experiment 8, therefore, he's older than Misty, right?"
Castor nodded numbly. I guess he still couldn't get over the fact that Misty was older than him. Liz sighed and looked at his face. He was a handsome boy, though that meant nothing to Liz of course, with his light brown hair and beautiful blue-gray eyes. But she wasn't admiring his features, no, she was merely noting his eyes. That was all.
"Cas, you okay?" She leaned into his face, which was looking at the ground glumly.
Castor grinned wildly and looked up into her face. Their noses were inches apart. Liz pulled back, startled, and almost fell over.
"What the hell was that for?!" Liz felt her face burning and hoped that her blushing wasn't noticeable in the dim hallway.
Castor started laughing. "Oh my gosh you should have seen your face!"
Though she was irritated at him, Liz's heart raced. She wasn't thinking about how her face looked or how Misty was giggling uncontrollably and Jay was trying to hide his smile. No, no matter how hard she tried not to, Liz was thinking of how close she and Castor were, even for a millisecond. She could still picture his blue-gray eyes, so close to hers that she went cross-eyed. Liz felt herself smile, and covered her mouth with her hand so no one else could see.
