Chapter 5

Jay

"The best reason for having dreams is that in dreams no reasons are necessary." - Ashleigh Brilliant

The devoratrix lashed their claws at Jay, but he was too swift. He dodged their attacks effortlessly. The demons would not slow down. Jay eventually decided he would try to attack, and began slicing each demon with his metallic hand. It glinted sliver every time he swung. All of them were gone after only a few minutes. Jay kept walking on, in the dark underground room, until he came upon a large stone throne. It was elevated, and seemed to emit a strange power, pulling him in. Jay resisted the urge. A shadow appeared on the stone, it was of a human, or what seemed to be one. The shadow grew and morphed into a man, his eyes without a pupil, but purely gold. He didn't speak through his mouth, but through mental telepathy. His voice was grainy and low.

"I am the creator of the devoratrix. I am their master. If you destroy me, a countless number of them will descend upon you."

Jay folded his arms. "So, you are the one I've been looking for."

The man laughed. "I am, intelligent one. But I was never gone from you. I've have been here always. You cannot destroy me, for I am all around you."

Jay sighed. "You know, it'd be much easier if you just told me your name. I love riddles, but I don't have that much time right now. I am on a very tight schedule, so lets just battle already and I'll be on my way."

The man cocked his head. "Battle? Oh no, I'm not battling you, you are too immature and not experienced enough. When you have found the others, maybe you will be ready. Besides, I'm here to warn you of the dangers ahead. You will face things unimaginable, and opponents much more powerful than those devoratrix. I am your final opponent. You can stop now, and save your life, or keep going and risk something much worse than death."

Jay turned the clock-face on his watch counter-clockwise, and it melted around his right hand, turning it a silver color. "You underestimate my skills, sir. I would rather be forced into a life of torture by being a hero, than live my life as a coward."

With that he stepped forward onto the platform and sliced the hologram in two. Jay walked on, not in the least afraid of what was ahead of him.

After two long minutes of walking in a stone hallway, with not as much as a torchlight to guide him, he was losing hope. Jay continued though, knowing in his heart he was made to do this, to kill the devoratrix and its creator. He had no other purpose, because, though the other experiments did not know as much as he did, he knew he was a machine. His brain was e programmed to think differently than the others, and he was made for a purpose. Jay was not going to let his creator down. He was thinking of strategies to defeat the man he had just met, when he heard a strange high-pitched voice.

"What! I cannot believe it, Miss Piggy! YOU ARE A LIZARD! How come I'm not a lizard? Aw man, you are SOOOO lucky."

Jay crouched on the stone floor and awaited the person. He closed his eyes.

"Just shut up already, you've been talking for hours."

This voice was different and was definitely lower, but still female. Suddenly he felt a sharp stab on his upper back.

"Ow," he said, standing up.

"Eek!"

Jay looked up and saw the most adorable girl he had ever seen. I must be dreaming, he thought. Oh wait. I'm so stupid. The girl had curly, short light brown hair and big blue eyes. She had a dazzling, crazy smile, and was much shorter than him.

"Oopsie-dazies! Sorry!" The girl looked up at him. Jay gulped.

A boy appeared beside her. "I'm so sorry, um, she's a little-"

"Lovely, beautiful, hilarious, and ADORABLE? You got that right!" She smiled and jumped up in the air.

Another person came up beside her, though this one was a girl. Her eyes were turquoise and her hair was blonde. She looked like she might explode from annoyance.

"Look. I'm not saying sorry until I know who you are."

Jay nodded. "Then you are smart. My name is of no importance. But I assure you I'm not here to harm you, unless of course you are the devoratrix or an assistant of their creator."

"'Of no importance' is a weird name." The cute girl said, tilting her head in the most adorable way.

The blonde girl huffed. "I'm not a devoratrix."

The boy smiled. "And neither are you a lizard."

The girl gave him a look that clearly said, I will slice you in half. The girl with brown curly hair and blue eyes held out her hand.

"I'm Misty! I love animals and I play lots of different instruments oh yeah I don't like spiders and I am super fashionable I like the color purple and I don't think Miss Piggy here likes me but anyways I'm a HUGE fan of the Beatles and if you don't like them then I don't like you, well that's not entirely true cuz' I like everybody but I guess I'll be quiet now because Miss Piggy's head is gonna blow up haha that would be funny, no it would be sad, and I like donuts and sushi and I'm experiment nine, what's your name cuz I seriously doubt its 'of no importance,' and if it is I'm sorry I didn't mean to make fun of you!"

Jay was temporarily stunned. Misty looked up at him with her big blue eyes, her smile seeming to light up the room. He couldn't help but smile a bit himself. This girl was full of energy. Jay looked into her big eyes. He could get lost in such amazing eyes. It seemed like there was a story behind this girl. He somehow doubted she was all sunshine and cuteness.

"So, what is it?"

Jay snapped back to reality. "Well, if you must know, my name is Jay. I am experiment-"

"8! You're experiment 8, aren't you?"

Jay's eyes widened. "How did you-?"

Misty giggled. "Oh, just a guess!"

The boy raised his hand. "Good, you can travel with us if you want. My name is Castor by the way, and this is-"

The blonde girl crossed her arms. "You don't have to introduce me to everyone, Cas. I can handle it."

Castor grinned. "I'm not so sure-"

"I'm Liz, experiment 12," she said, punching Castor in the arm. He winced but a smile spread over his face as well. Jay could see that these two must have some kind of a 'relationship' with each other, though whether it was love he was not too sure. Liz's face clearly showed something quite opposite of deep affection.

Jay nodded. "I will come with you, but I may have to depart at any moment, is that clear?"

Liz raised her eyebrow, "Okay, but-"

"YAY! This is great! We will be best friends, I promise!" Misty skipped in the other direction, singing. He could catch the words, "Here comes the sun," and that was enough.

He caught up to Misty. "So, you like the Beatles, huh?"

Misty smiled from ear to ear. "Are you kidding? Of course!"

She started to sing and Jay felt like he was in a trance. Her voice was so melodic and beautiful, he felt like listening to her for hours. They kept walking on, Misty skipping, and though the hallway was dark and gloomy, she brightened it with her song and smile.
