[Episode 3] Adjusting To A New World
“I really should have paid more attention to everything.”
Kai walked in the room as Bridget was muttering this to herself, walking around the kitchen that was part of the living space that belonged to Shin and Misaki, above Card Capital.
Aichi, Kai, and the others would be around most of the time, as they were curious about the newcomers, one of which was examining different boxes of food products that she had never seen before in her entire life.
“Oh, and why is that?” Kai questioned, causing her to jump and almost drop the box of whatever she was holding, though she barely managed to catch it.
“Heh, because I honestly have no idea what there is to eat in Japan other than noodles, rice, and fortune cookies...” She admitted sheepishly, causing Kai to smirk lightly, though it was only seen for a second before it was gone.
The six foreigners had been staying with Shin and Misaki for a few weeks now, and they had become somewhat accustomed to living in this world, though, strangely enough, Bridget had been somewhat reluctant to play Vanguard since the first day they arrived.
“You’re a strange child.” Kai told her, shaking his head lightly and taking the box from her, replacing it back in the cupboard.
“I have a few tiny mental issues, I’ll admit... and I’m not a kid, I’m the same age as you are!” She exclaimed, to which Kai raised an eyebrow at her.
“I actually doubt that. I’m sixteen.”
“That’s awkward. Well, I’m almost sixteen, so, I’m close to your age.” She retorted, and Kai merely rolled his eyes in response.
“Whatever. This isn’t the discussion we’re supposed to be having right now.” He told her, causing her to blink at him, confused.
“We’re actually supposed to be having a discussion?” She inquired, and Kai nodded, tucking his hands into his pockets.
“I’m supposed to be explaining to you how its going to work when you and your friends start attending school here.”
At the word ‘school’, Bridget blinked, before she was quick to attempt to bolt out of the room.
“Nope, nope, nope- hey!” She exclaimed when Kai grabbed her wrist and pulled her back, knocking her onto her backside, so she was sitting on the ground, looking upside down at Kai, who was watching her with an unimpressed look, still holding onto her wrist.
“What’s the problem?” He questioned dully, and she grimaced at him, almost pouting.
“I don’t want to go to school, I most definitely hate it.” She snapped, and Kai rolled his eyes, before looking up as Shin walked into the kitchen, Misaki and the boys following after him.
“What’re you doing?” Sean questioned, giving Bridget a weird look, to which she glared at him from her position on the floor.
“Writing a soap opera. What do you think I’m doing?!” She exclaimed, and Sean rolled his eyes while the others laughed lightly.
“Its honestly not very obvious, my only guess would be you and Kai are holding hands in an odd position.” Cyrus smirked, to which Kai instantly dropped Bridget’s wrist and walked over to sit at the kitchen table, while she shot him a glare and climbed to her feet.
“Kai was just telling me about how we’re expected to go to school here.” She explained, and the boys looked surprised, before they all turned to Shin who smiled nervously.
“That’s a joke, right?” Hayden asked, to which Shin shook his head.
“No, its not, actually. It’ll raise suspicions if I have six kids staying here that aren’t going to school, and no one knows who they are or where they came from.” He explained, causing Bridget to cross her arms and give Shin a stern look.
“There is absolutely no way you’re going to make me go to school, not even if you drag me there.”
~*~*~*~
“I cannot believe you dragged me here!”
Dragging was not the correct word, as Bridget had been forcibly carried to school by Morikawa, who, when she had attempted to slap him when he tried to drag her, had merely thrown her over his shoulder like some sort of doll.
“He didn’t really drag you...” Shin began, but, was silenced by the deadly look she gave him, while the boys snickered in amusement.
“I have to admit, she’s pretty evil for someone so small.” Miwa chuckled, to which Bridget only seemed to get even more annoyed.
“Hey, who’re you calling small?! I’ll have you know, I was one of the tall kids in my old school.” She told him smugly, though, he only laughed.
“Yeah, well, compared to us, you’re rather short.” He told her, and she responded by glaring at him, knowing he was - unfortunately - correct on that.
Morikawa set her down, earning a slap across the cheek before she dodged him when he attempted to grab her, and ran over to hide behind Kai, to which Morikawa glared but didn’t come after her.
“Alright, now, before you all head to class, you do realize you can’t go around using your real names, it might raise suspicion that you’re not from around here, and then people will start asking questions that you shouldn’t answer.” Shin explained, and Bridget smiled happily.
“Just call me Kaori Yamazaki!” She announced proudly, before pointing at Cyrus. “Oh, and Cyrus is Kazuya Yuto.”
“Well, that was quick.” Shin mused, to which Cyrus smirked.
“She’s asked us before what we’d be called if we were in this world, I never actually thought we’d get the chance to use the names, though.” He explained, and Shin nodded.
“I see. Well, do you guys have names chosen?” He inquired, turning to look at the four other boys, who shook their heads.
“No, we weren’t expecting to need them either.” Devin told him, and Shin nodded before looking thoughtful.
“Alright, well, thinking of names shouldn’t be that hard... let’s see,” He tapped his chin in thought, before smiling. “Devin, we’ll call you Daiki Ginjiro, Sean, you can be Shiro Kiyoshi, Aiden, Akako Fuyu, and Hayden... how about Hiroshi Kouhei?”
The four boys seemed to consider the name choices for a moment before they nodded in agreement.
“I’ve got no idea what those names mean, but, works for me.” Hayden smirked, causing Shin to clap his hands together and smile.
“Great! Remember your names, and try not to slip up, because that’ll turn out to be very awkward. I’m sure Aichi, Kai, Miwa and Morikawa can show you six around the school and make sure you find everything alright.”
“The great Morikawa will teach his newest students how to become the most popular! Follow me!” Morikawa exclaimed, before charging into the school, leaving the group watching after him, half amused and half ashamed.
“He’s kidding, right?” Bridget questioned, smirking lightly in the direction Morikawa had left in, to which Shin laughed lightly.
“I’m afraid not, he really thinks too highly of himself,” Miwa smirked, shaking his head before he crossed his arms and smiled at the group. “Anyways, Kai, Aichi and I will show you around and show you to your classes, come on.”
Sighing dramatically, Bridget followed after the three of them, the five other boys following after as well, while Shin watched them enter the school before he left.
“Do we really have to go to school?” She questioned miserably, causing Kai to roll his eyes.
“Things are different here than they are where you came from, and if you want to stay here, you’re going to have to get used to it.”
She glared at Kai’s words, but, said nothing else as the group ventured into the school.
