I made my way down the stairs of the house from my room where I had been browsing clothes online. I passed Fay with another girl I hadn't seen before. Maybe they were lovers of some sort, or friends, I guessed. Fay often brought in artsy types, like herself. This girl didn't seem all that expressive in her clothing, but I didn't know what she was truly like as a person. I reached the bottom of the stairs and managed to walk into Luis. I blushed, apologised, and continued on my way to the kitchen. It was my day to make food, I believed, so I thought I might start a little early.
Opening the door to the Living Room, I saw Kelsey sitting on his laptop, and Erin staring at the television, but not fully paying attention. Sulking as usual, I guessed.
"You all right there, Erin?" I asked. He looked up.
"Oh, yeah, Robin. I guess. Did you see the new girl?" He sounded rather bored.
"Hmm." I thought for a second. "Was that the girl Fay was walking up with?"
"Probably. You making dinner tonight?" He asked.
"Yep. Wanna help?" I asked, maybe flirting just a little, even though I knew he wasn't interested at all.
"Ugh. Fine." He looked to Kelsey, as if he was going to ask him to come too, but then decided not to. As far I was aware, they had never really liked each other, but I hadn't talked to them in a while, so who knew? Relationships could change in an instant in the house.
Erin walked through to the kitchen with me. I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror by the entrance. I looked quite good, that day, in all honesty. My hair was extra big, and the feathery design on my new dress suited me quite well. The others call me vain, but I'm not doing it to impress them. I guess fashion's just fun. A way to express yourself, or something like that. I'm not sure. I was never one with words.
Originally I had planned to just throw a few ingredients in a pot (as I usually do), and see how it went, but Erin liked to be more sophisticated. He showed me a recipe from an actual book , and instructed me thoroughly on how to prepare the vegetables and things. To be perfectly truthful, I had always found Erin quite attractive, but never really spent much time alone with him. He definitely wouldn't be interested in starting a relationship with me, I knew, but it was fun to fantasise. The others I presumed hadn't figured out his secret, but I had.
Once we had put the stew in the oven, he started to gossip about Hayley, that new girl. I wasn't too shocked that Luis had found another housemate for us. I was fine with it, really. I could see Erin wasn't. I think he tried to hide it, but I could see his obvious jealousy. Quite cute really, despite it being a little childish.
Finally the stew seemed good enough, and we called everyone through to eat.
