Kendall walked down the familiar street on which Noah's house was located. She was deep in thought... as per usual.
She had just finished her coffee and chat with Peyton. Peyton had gone home to finish her art homework and now she was all alone, walking down the dimly lit, silent, eerie street. She hated this street. It was always deserted and always had that creepy feel to it that Kendall despised. She felt a sudden gust of wind and shuddered.
She wore her tight, grey and black gym clothes as she wanted to show of her 'amazing body' as Peyton had repeatedly told her in the cafe. They had talked over small slices of fruit cake and skinny lattes about eating more healthily and how skipping meals wasn't doing Kendall any favours. She listened intently to her best friend but their was still some part of her that wanted to bury her head under her covers and cry until there were no tears left. She felt weak, helpless and bony in her gym outfit but it made her feel light instead of heavy and graceful instead of stiff.
She walked up the stone pathway to Noah's dark front door and knocked.
"Hey Kenny," Noah answered the door and was greeted by his beautiful girlfriend.
"Hey babe. Can I come in?" Kendall asked nervously. She wasn't quite sure why she suddenly felt nervous around her own boyfriend. It was weird.
"Yeah sure come in," Noah stepped to the side to let his girlfriend in. She was welcomed by the scent of freshly made roast dinner. She could've thrown up right there on the spot. The smell tickled her nostrils in a way that made her feel uneasy inside. She couldn't think about dinner. She had just forced down a slice of cake... even if it was just a small slice.
They went upstairs into Noah's bedroom. Noah shut the door behind them. Usually this was not allowed but since his parents were engrossed in their office paperwork downstairs they wouldn't notice. Let's be real: if World War Three was happening right now they wouldn't have even noticed. That's how serious and dedicated they are to their jobs. It was kinda sick actually.
Kendall sat on the end of his double bed, crossing her legs awkwardly. OK, why is it this awkward. We have been dating for quite a while now and never has it been this awkward, Kendall thought into herself. She couldn't say these words outloud.
"D'you want anythin' to eat or drink?" He asked her.
She looked up at him. "No I had a latte half an hour ago."
Noah nodded but inside he was weirded out. Surely Kendall would be hungry if she had only had a latte for a snack/dinner (if you could even count a cup of milky coffee with foam as your dinner)
Kendall sensed his weirdness a second after she said her sentence. It was something that they both had in common. He was able to sense whatever Kendall was feeling. Whether it be happiness, sadness, weirdness, anger, joy, contentment? Anything? And it was the same with Noah. They have a special bond; a ribbon that ties the two of them together that never gets broken or ripped. They are special on their own but something entirely different when their together. They could both feel it right now. It was as if Kendall's emotions were penetrating into Noah, seeping into him like snake's venom.
"Hey are you alright?" There is was again: Noah felt the overwhelming urge to burst into tears but yet he wasn't at the same time. Did Kendall feel the need to cry right now? Why?
"Umm... no... I'm not fine," Kendall took a deep breath in and said, "I'm not competing in the race."
Noah's mouth opened wide. This was something that he did not expect Kendall Rivers to say. Never in a million years would he have thought that she would come off with something like this. She had been training for this race for so long now. She had been skipping meals and eating less just to be ready for it. She had exchanged homework and studying for running and exercising. It was all she could think about and now... she was going to throw it all away. Why? What had prompted- encouraged- such weird thoughts?
"Why?"
"Truth is that I have been skipping meals and eating less and less everyday in the hope that it will make me skinnier and healthier for the race. A good friend- who has experienced this herself- told me that it doesn't work. In the moment it feels right but then something or someone comes along and helps you see that what you are doing is wrong. It took me a while- longer than I care to admit- for me to realise what I was doing wasn't helping me in any way possible. It was making me worse. I have Peyton to thank for that," she sighed then continued, "I'm not sure why I am telling you all of this but I felt like it needed to be said..."
Noah smiled at her. His smile radiated off of his face and onto hers as he took a seat beside her on the end of the bed, squishing her slightly. She turned to face him and looked him straight in the eye. His beautiful sea green eyes glinted like diamonds in the light and his usually chestnut brown hair looked slightly bronze in places and dark brown in others. His light blue skinny jeans were ripped just above the knee and his white Converse were battered and torn but yet he still looked like a model. He always does and always will, Kendall thought as she stared deeply into his perfect eyes.
"You're telling me this because I am your boyfriend and I love and care about you and you care and love me enough to tell me anything. I love you Kendall Rivers." Noah pulled her into a hug; her head on his chest, one arm wrapped around his waist.
He kissed her forehead and looked down at her. For the first time in about two weeks, Kendall actually looked relaxed and chilled. She wasn't tense and uptight. Her body wasn't stiff and uncomfortable to hug. It was just perfect."So you're not mad at me for skipping meals and keeping my feelings hidden from you?" Kendall said into his chest.
"I knew that you would tell me in your own time," he replied.
"How?"
"Because you love me."
"That's true." Kendall smiled up at him and kissed his lips.
In that very moment, she felt her worries and concerns and doubts float out of her and into the air around them. It was like a huge weight had been lifted off of her shoulders. Noah's presence just had that affect on her...
Told you there was something special about him didn't I...
