"Hey did you hear?"
I look over to my best friend of five years. Don't get me wrong I love Peyton, but she can gossip. Peyton and I met in sixth grade. She had a black eye and I had a nosebleed. From that day on we were best friends.
"Did I hear what?"
"Luke is back!"
I roll my eyes. Slam my locker and start walking to first period.
"I don't understand how he can stay on the football team when he gets suspended ALL THE TIME." I say.
"He is the quarterback, you know that the football team sucks without him."
I just nod my head as we make separate ways. I walk into Mrs. Petry's class, sit down, and start on the bell ringer. I hear the door open and the whispers start. Always making a "grand entrance." He sits beside his friend Kade. The teacher starts with her boring lecture. Finally the bell rings. I'm surprised to see that Luke actually stayed. He usually just leaves.
I'm almost out the door when Mrs. Pettry calls me into her class.
"How would you feel about tutoring?"
"Uhhh I would need to check my schedule, I work so-"
"Perfect you can start tutoring Luke immediately."
"But-but"
"You can go now..."
That's the thing about Mrs. Petry, what she says goes. Nothing and I mean NOTHING can change her mind. I walk out cursing the day. Why? Why him? Couldn't it be anything or anybody.
