"However," Max paused and smirked to someone off camera, "we have a rather unexpected results."
My family froze in anticipation mounting by 10 fold at those words.
"The Prince has chosen not 1, as is customary, but 6 girls for the beginning, which will be named momentarily."
I heard my heart pounding and could barely admit to myself the truth. I actually wanted to be chosen.
"We have Ms. Franchelsa Baronneimo from upstate. "
pause.
"Ms. Zoë Kirk from the inner west coast."
pause.
"Ms. Chloe Edwards from the southern estates."
pause.
"Ms. Regan Romanova from Delaware City."
pause.
"Ms. Amour Garrix from upper New Paris."
Max opened his mouth and then stopped. I heard my mom swear under her breath angered by the longer pause. I let myself relax not aware I was so incredibly tensed in the first place. Grey turned around from his seat on the couch and looked at me with wide eyes. The silence was deafening as we locked eyes and I gave him a small smile to reassure him that all was alright. My heart told a different story, beating so fast I was afraid it would burst.
"And... from the state of New Los Angeles," my mother gasped and leaned forward in anticipation...
"Ms. Mahogany Carpenter."
My mother screamed and I jumped. I stared at the screen as he gave the closing statements that I couldn't hear over the controlled chaos that was my family. I felt a small bolt of curiosity run through me. I felt a grin grow slowly on my face as I thought about the coming weeks. "Well it looks like I'm going to the palace," I said as I met my family eyes.
Even if I don't win, well... I'll make sure to give 'em a hell of fight before I go.
