Run, Septimus. Do not look back, my kit.The broad tom remembered the words, and they scarred him. The simple phrase held such a dark meaning, he sometimes wondered if what he heard was even real, or the events following it.
I said run! He will be here soon for me, and when he is, there is no turning back!
He had ran into the dark under grove of ferns and thistles. The plants have pricked his pelt, causing a small amount of blood to draw from his paws. It felt as if he was running on a river of blood, sweat, and endless amounts of prickles. They stung the cat, and yelping was all that came from his mouth.
Septimus closed his eyes and heaved a breath, dismissing the memory. He found himself constantly reminiscing the moment quite often, and he could never escape it. The death of his mother and her screams still haunted him.
"Septimus, you shouldn't be here. You know how my two-legs feel about stray cats," A cat whispered and he turned toward the voice. The tom grunted and replied,
"Rinni, calm down, would you? Your two-legs are asleep by now, fool. Now, step out of that ridiculous fenced yard and talk to me."
The kittypet, Rinni, rolled his eyes as he jumped the fence, and met face to face with Septimus. Rinni's amber eyes were lit up by a single flicker of light from a two-leg contraption. "Sep, what do you want? I thought you promised not to bother me any longer, only Yvonne." His voice was full of exhaustion, and the other tom could see it.
Septimus sighed and nodded, "I know I did, but listen, please." The red tom paused to look if Rinni was paying attention and started again, "Yvonne knows little of anything outside of Willington City, but I know you know almost everything about the outside world."
Rinni narrowed his eyes, his white fur blowing in the wind, as he commented, "That is true, I do know a lot of things about the outside world. Also, since when did you know the name of this two-leg dump?" Septimus rolled his eyes at his last words but said,
"Yvonne taught me it. Anyway, I need you to tell me if there are any cats that live out near the forest, or in it."
All the cat heard was silence, and they both stared at each other for a long time before Rinni spoke, "No." He said.
Septimus' mouth fell open as he coughed out in shock, "Why do you say that? Is there something I should be aware of?" He received no answers and growled, "Tell me now, kittypet, or I'll hurt you!"
Rinni's eyes flashed with hurt as he shook his head and took a step back towards his two-leg nest. "Leave the cats that reside there alone, Sep. They are dangerous and do not accept outsiders such as yourself." The kittypet grunted, "Why do you want to go there anyway?"
The warmth around them quickly became cold, both sides having no idea what to do now. Septimus stared at his friend and sighed, "My reasoning is none of your business, fool. Tell me about these cats!" The larger tom shoved the other one hard, whose eyes became wide with panic, but he nodded.
"The cats there are savages. They live in the wild, and have no proper standards. They call themselves Clans, and as far as I know, there are two. The cats have special powers, and some say they can even revive the dead, but I'm not sure," Rinni gasped his words with no breaths between, trying to escape any hits from his friend, and he watched Septimus' eyes widen.
The cats have special powers, and some say they can even revive the dead.
"You must show me them." Septimus said, and Rinni shook his head quickly, then replied,
"I promised myself a long time ago to never go there, but I can show you cats that will take you there."
The large red tom beside him thought his words over, and he seemed to be studying the ground in thought. "Who are they and why would they show me to the Clans?" Septimus asked.
"They're some cats around the docks who hang out together. Eris and Artemis are their names. One is a she-cat, the other a tom, and they would show you around because they love a good journey," Rinni chirped, "If you promise to protect them and help feed them, they would show you to the Clans,"
"I must meet them then. When can you take me to see these cats?" Septimus asked.
"Now if you would like, but please be warned, if you say one wrong thing, this could blow up in your face." The kittypet said warily, "I've heard many tales of horrible things that happen with those Clans, they're unnatural, Sep,"
"I don't care what you think, fool. They hold the key to my destiny," Septimus growled angrily, and turned away from the kittypet, "Now, take me!" He spat out in anger.
Rinni shook his head, and sighed as he walked toward the direction of the docks, "Sep, sometimes you worry me. You shouldn't still be mourning your mother, it has been ages. Move on, you can't dwell forever on her," His words were barely audible from his groggy voice, and Septimus paid him no attention.
He was too busy dreaming of the Clans and their powers, hoping that some how, they could help him with his turmoil. Eris and Artemis were his way to them, he was relying on two cats he had never even met.
Septimus never saw himself in a predicament such as this before, where he was stuck following a kittypet to meet two cats who would leave him to his destiny.
They can revive the dead, and I promise mother, you'll be able to walk on the grass once more when I meet the Clans.
