Curlytessie

Tessa snaps awake from her long dream when her alarm clock promptly goes off, and she hops out of bed. She's never been a morning person, much to her mom's delight... she doesn't have to wrestle with Tessa to get out of bed.

She gets dressed in a short blue t-shirt and high-waisted jeans, and immediately skips to school there afterwords, stealing a piece of toast from the toaster and saying goodbye to her mother. Walking out the door to reveal the thunderstorm overhead, with frigid temperatures, she jogs back inside and unhooks a coat from the rack.

"Shit. This is gonna be fun," she murmurs, sighing while walking the wettened path, the mud rising as it splashes on to her boots, while making her start to splotch heavily. The rain pours drastically over her head, and the coat only protects from the rain, not the unbearable weather. "This sucks," she admits to herself, the path almost never-ending. That is, until a loud splash is created behind her, and she wheels around, seeing Will Byers, his bike parked only a few feet behind her. Without a word, he gets off and pulls up next to her, with his bike at his side.

"Hello," he basically shouts, over the howling wind and pouring rain. His eyes look warm and inviting, shining brown in the gloominess of the storm. "You all right? You seem lonely... And wet." he states.

"Well, it's kind of storming, and I'm walking to school, so, yes. It would seem that I am." she rolls her eyes playfully, content to have company. "Ha, yeah..." he laughs nervously, scratching the back of his head. His hair's wet, it's sticking like a mop to his head. "Want the coat?" she asks softly, offering the jacket to him. "No, I'm good." he rejects, and she shakes his head. "Hey, I grew up in Maine, I'm used to iciness." she laughs. "No." he refuses. "Suit yourself." she shrugs, leaving it on.

"Hey, um... Tessa?" he inquires, which makes her turn her head instantly. "Yeah?"

"Well, uh, I was just wondering... hmmf, hmmm," he starts making weird noises, trying to find a way to put this. "Will you..."

She cut him off with a short laugh. "Ha, I get it. Will you? Will, and you're will? That was really... punny." she slaps his arm playfully, feeling a slight blush creep to her cheeks on contact. "Heh, yeah..." he forces out a laugh, trying to finish what he wants to say. "You know how Mike and El are going to the Snow Ball together, right?" he blurts. "Yes... they're my friends, why wouldn't I know?" she raises an eyebrow. "Well, Lucas and Dustin... they managed to scrounge up dates... I'm the only one who hasn't. I'm just trying to ask the girl I like out, so-"

"Oh, you're gonna practice on me? Cool, let's do this!" she claps her hands. "Oh, Will! How lovely to see you this fine morning!" she exaggerates a female voice, getting her eyelashes and using dainty hand gestures. He manages to snort.

"No, not practice. I was wondering... would you kind of, sort of, maybe want to go with me?" he asks hopefully, and smiles brightly.

With these few words, her entire body, which was rigid, seeps with warmth, as her heart pumps vibrantly and repeatedly. Him, the amazing Will Byers, the Boy Who Came Back To Life, was asking her out? Tessa? Her?

With an inner resounding yes, she stops and crosses her arms, not letting her resting-bitch facade fade. "That would be awesome!" she says with a small smile. "But dances are so cheesy, can't we go to an arcade or something?" he laughs again. "You're too picky." he states the obvious, making Tessa giggle in guilty agreement. "Kind of the case, yes."

"So, you don't want to go to the dance?" he asks, sounding somewhat disappointed. "Nah, I'm going to the dance. I was just messing with you." she grins toothily.

"Yeah, yeah." he shoves her lightly, barely making her stumble. She didn't even realize she's been walking so far, the large building was coming into view. "You know, Mr. McCarthy's gonna kill us," she informs him, knowing that they're late for homeroom. "Yeah, whatever." he shrugs nochalantly.

Tessa uses her rubber band to tie her long brown hair back, and Will smiles at the full sight of her face.

She's pretty, very pretty. Her freckles just make it ten times cuter. "Huh, just use your freckles against Mr. McCarthy and he'll melt because they're too cute."

"Says who?"

"Says me, I think they're adorable."

"Don't be clichè," she sighs, trotting into the school, a blast of warmth hitting her square in the face. He soon follows, and as they run into homeroom, the bell barely rings, and they sit down right next to each other as usual. "Well, you guys are right on time! Sadly, I wish you didn't come at all!" their teacher jests, always making fun of his students. They all love it, though.

"Nah, we were just trapped in the rain."

"Could've gotten pneumonia." he 'tsks' and Will snickers.

Right after the first period bell rings, they stand up, and Will even gets the guts to kiss her cheek. That very cheek flames a dark crimson, and he looks at the ground bashfully. "I'll see you later, Will, okay?" she says sweetly. "Yeah... and the Snow Ball, right?"

"Right." she agrees, and skips off, ecstatic. Everything has changed, for her, as she now loves the thunderstorm that continues to billow outside.
