'Wait..what are you talking about?" I laugh staring around the room confused
"Yeah we've been carrying you around to where ever we went' he bit his thumb
My ears filled with heavy static and my mind flooded with the memory of being hauled around to different places and a deep voice shouting to leave me behind and Will fighting with them.
I instinctively put my hand on his shoulder "thank you.. I can always count on you"
He smiled "I knew you were gonna wake up"
"We need to stick together" I noted
"You might have noticed we have some new people with us" he gestured to the back of the bus "most of them are nice..just look out for Jayson he's the one with the long black hair"
I glanced back at the random people who had made their home on our bus.
"yeah, i recognise him"I chewed my lip and glanced back at Will
"wait have you been able to hear us?"
"a bit" I admitted I ran a hand through my hair and sighed deeply "it was like coming in and out of consciousness, sometimes all I could hear was static"
Will's eyes filled with pain "it's all my fault"
"no-no it's not, you believed in me when no one else would"
"but I could have saved you and I didn't"
"You didn't know what was going to happen" I argued my brow creasing
"oi why isn't the bus moving?!" a loud voice echoed from the back of the bus
Will grinded his teeth and pulled the bus back onto the road.
"I'm guessing that's Jayson" I slumped against the side of the bus my leg screaming out in pain
"Looks like sleeping beauty is finally awake" the deep voice got louder
I glanced at Will not knowing what to say
Jayson trudged up the front of the bus pulling his pony tighter with a smug smile on his dirty face. His black jeans and grey tight, fitted t-shirt was covered in blood.
"Not gonna say hello" he revealed a set of perfect teeth.
"I'm guessing your Jayson" I replied monotone analysing him my brow slightly raised
He reached out a dirty strong hand and shook mine tightly his stare burning into my skin. Will shot me a look from his seat as Jayson swaggered to the back of the bus.
"Zoey" a groggy voice called out
I wiped my head round to find an exhausted Jess grinning up at me
A grin painted on my face I leapt over and pulled Jess into my arms
"I missed you so much" she wept"I was starting to give up hope"
"Me too"I whispered suffocating from her bear hug
"Has Will told you-"
"He told me"I peeled myself out of her grasp and sniffed
"I can't believe its been so long" she puffed "every couple of months we had to move to stay safe"
"Where are we right now?" I winced at the light hitting my eyes and peered into the distance.
"We had to go back on ourselves..so right now we're somewhere in Birmingham
"I've always wanted to visit Birmingham" I half-joked
"Go and wake Kyle up I'm sure he missed you too" Jess gestured to where Kyle was slumped over in his seat in a deep sleep, a line of saliva hanging from his partly open mouth.
Will laughed turning back to check on him "It blows my mind how he sleeps so well through all of this"
"I don't think he wants to speak to me" I perched myself on a seat facing them
"He was worried about you" Jess smiled reassuringly
"I dunno I think I'll leave it" I glanced down at my feet and shuffled them on the worn out, patchy floor it was grey and covered in chewing gum probably from the years and years it had been used to cart the college students from and to college every long 9-5 day. My heart sunk as I thought that most college students had gone to the hospital with the police and wouldn't be making their journey home ever again.

It felt like hours has passed Jess cought me up on what happened she told me how they had met an older couple with a young daughter around the age of 5 and how the girl was scratched when they were on a food run in some abandoned houses and the couple knew but didn't let the group know and in the night she turned and attacked her biting both of them but the dad didn't turn but he couldn't live without his family so hung himself but even when he died he didn't come back.

A feeling a dread crashed over me like a harsh, heavy wave I was bitten way before the outbreak and I could have turned while I was passed out all this time I didn't know what could've happened and I made my best friend lie for me.
I pushed the guilt to the back of my mind struggled to appear interested "how long ago was this"
"About a month ago I think" she carried on unaware of the look of guilt on my face "It's hard to keep track of time"
"Was anyone in our group hurt?" I glanced around the bus
"One of the guys from Jayson's group a major weirdo was bitten" she glanced back at Jayson who's body was limp and sprawled over two seats "he started laughing when he found out he'd been bitten and then bloody jumped out of the window while we were driving down the highway" her face a picture of shock and horror
"What the fuck?" I burst "what did Jayson do?"
She lowered her voice and crouched in closer to me "they were really close like two peas in a pod kinda close and Jayson just sat down at the back of the bus and hasn't said anything about it since"

"What and no one's thought to say anything to him?" I spat in shock
