"Do you think this is a good idea?" I glanced back towards Parma who was rifling through a choice of weapons "she still seems shaken from the last drop off" I tried to convince myself

Jess gave me a sympathetic smile "I don't think it's our choice to make"

"Better not get under Jayson's feet" will agreed packing his hunting knife into his bag preparing for what ever would be out there in the unknown.

"Right" I nodded turning my attention back to my own weapon. I had the same screwdriver from before, the bloody pocket knife, another small knife I packed and the secret carving knife hiding in my backpack. That should be enough, but who knows what kind of weapons Jayson has gotten his hands on.

The whole bus was busy with people walking back and forth, picking up weapons, throwing them into their bags and in their pockets, already content with my weapons I perched on the end of my seat scanning everyone. I mean these are the people I'm going to be spending however amount of time with while this whole scenario is going on and they weren't anything closer than strangers to me, well minus Jess, Will and Kyle.

A delicate hand rubbed my shoulder "were going to separate whilst we're outside of the van "me, you and Will are sticking together and Kyle is staying behind to man the bus"

I glanced wearily back at Kyle who was silently reloading his weapons "is he going to be okay..does he always stay behind?"

Jess followed my line of vision "Oh yeah" she nodded confidentially "you should see him with those things, he's a pro"

Nodding casually I found my footing and followed my group onto the pavement below. The humid air surrounded me like a comforting hug, I didn't realise how cold it was on that bus, I wrapped my arms around my body for comfort.
I don't know what was worse being caged in on the bus with no personal hygiene and a group of people that I would never choose to be around in any other situation or being exposed in a plague ridden hell hole where danger lurked at every corner.
"Okay" Jayson's deep voice echoed through the moment of silence demanding attention "you sort yourselves out we're going this way"

I ran a free hand through my hair, he had clearly made up his mind and I definitely wasn't going to take it upon myself to argue with him.

Without glancing back he and his "minions" took off in the opposite direction, disappearing further and further into thick the sea of buildings until we couldn't see them anymore.
My eyes lingered on Parma as they disappeared  around the corner, how did we come across these people and how did she get along with anyone of them?

I glanced around at our surroundings, I always wanted to visit Birmingham but this was definitely not how I imagined it. What was once a quiet, clean town now stood in ruins, windows were smashed, doors hung off hinges if they were present at all and streets were lined with all sorts of rubbish from broken down cars to baskets of rotting shopping that had been dropped in panic.
I never thought i'd see the world like this, how long did it take for the world to fall into panic and destruction, days, weeks, months?? For most people to be consumed by the virus?
It felt like just yesterday that we were in college and receiving the news for the first time.

"I guess that just leaves us with one option then" will grimaced pointing to the opposite direction which held less buildings but with a larger amount of destruction "off we go"
My heart dropped we were inevitably going to come into contact with one of those things again and our whole group would be there..last time that happened we lost two people even if one of them was an arsehole the mental wound still stung as if salt was being gently poured in making the pain harder to bare.

I glanced down at the trail of thick, wet blood which lay fresh on the ground, whoever or whatever made that was probably close by. Everyones eyes wandered trying to focus on anything else but inevitably falling flat.
Maybe we were better off siting pretty with Kyle I thought as we took off following the bloody brick road towards danger.
