I looked deep into his eyes and smiled. I had the perfect boyfriend and I couldn’t ask for anyone better. I leaned in to kiss him and then- “ALLY!” Just like that I’m snapped out of my daydream of being in a relationship with the beautiful boy from the book I was reading. “Yes, Mr. Johnson?” I asked my geometry teacher. “I said, can you explain to me how I found x?” “Um I-” *RING* I looked at my quite angry teacher and shrugged “Saved by the bell?” He didn’t think that was funny. I gathered my books and made my way to my locker to get my stuff and get out of here. “Mr. Johnson looked about ready to kill you, you know that?” My neighbor and best friend for as long as I could remember, Ashton, said. “Yeah well whatever, it’s the weekend, he can’t do anything about it now and he’ll forget about it by Monday.” “About that, some of my friends are throwing a party this weekend and I got invited, care to join me?” Ashton has always been in the popular crowd because he could get along with anyone. He’s friends with the jocks, the nerds, anyone you could think of he knew somehow. I, on the other hand, probably had Ashton and two other friends and that was about it. I’m one of those introverts who have trouble talking to people and reads lots of books, not a party-goer. “Ashton, you know I hate parties. I always end up hiding in a corner on my phone or something, no thanks.” “Oh come on Ally, live a little! There is life outside of your rooms and books you know?” “Yes Ash, I’m quite aware,” I sighed “when is this party anyways?” Ashton smiled his devious smile, that he knows I can’t say no to. “So that means you’re coming?” He asked, even though he was well aware of my answer. I rolled my eyes “Only because I love you.” Ashton let out a laugh. I only love Ash as a friend, and he feels the same way. We’ve discussed the whole “we’ve been best friends forever so it may lead to dating” thing before and both of us agreed that it would never happen, and that was that. We maneuvered our way through the busy hallway to Ashton’s car so we could go home. “This party is going to be so fun, I know it.” “I hardly believe fun is the word you’re looking for my friend.” Ashton just turned up the radio and drove to our houses where we will then have to get ready, which leads me to remember- I have absolutely nothing to wear. “Ashton?” I say in the sweetest voice possible and flash him a big fake smile. It’s safe to say he knows I want something. “What now?” he groans. ”Well, you know, I’m being a very good friend and accompanying you to this party that you know I would rather not attend, but in order for me to go I would have to have something to wear, which I don’t, so can you pretty please take me to the mall?” And with a louder groan Ashton turns the car around and heads to the mall. “Thanks Ashton” “Yeah, yeah” he responds, but I know he’s not actually mad because I see the corner of his mouth turn up into a little smile. “You know you love me”
After about two hours of shopping and Ashton groaning and carrying my bags for me like the gentleman he is, I finally find a nice dress to wear. It isn’t to modest but it also isn’t to short, so I think I’m good. “So who is even going to this party?” I ask, even though I know I won’t know anyone there. “Mostly jocks and cheerleaders but I’m sure you’ll know someone, and if you don’t you can hangout with me and my friends.” “You know I don’t really like your friends,” “Oh please, Ally. You love my friends, all except for Calum, which I still don’t really understand since you haven’t even talked to him before.” Calum Hood, aka the most popular guy in school, was the definition of your typical “bad boy”. A couple tattoos, a lip piercing, cocky attitude, and cares only about what is in his best intentions. He’s the kind of guy that hooks up with girls at parties and forgets their names the next morning, your typical heartbreaker. I have no respect for people like that, regardless of if I’ve properly met the boy or not, which I haven’t. “I have my reasons, now lets go home so I can actually have time to get ready, we’ve been here for ages!” I tease Ashton, whose about to argue but realizes I’m messing around so he just shakes his head.
Once we get home I get my homework done and out of the way so I don’t have to worry about it for the rest of the weekend. I take a quick shower then begin my process of getting ready. I slide the dress up my body and look in the mirror, it’s a little tight but it’ll have to do. I pair the black dress with a gold necklace and small heels. I put on some light make-up and loosely curl my hair, hoping that I look like I’m not trying to hard but not that I didn’t try at all. I send Ashton a text telling him I’m ready and he tells me he’ll be here in a minute. The doorbell rings and I grab my purse and head out. Ashton looks over my appearance, “You clean up nice.” “Shut up Irwin.” We both laugh and get into the car where we both sing whatever song is playing on the radio at the top of our lungs, as we usually do. We pull up to the house where the party is and I can already tell it’s going to be a long night. Ashton opens the car door for me and throws his arm around my shoulder in a friendly way as we walk up to the door. “Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll have fun. Just try to let loose a little!”
We walk in and Ashton scans the room for the first person he knows when he finally sees his friend, Michael, the one who constantly dies his hair. “Mikey!” Ashton shouts, catching Michael’s attention. He calls us over and hands us both cups which contains what I’m guessing is some kind of alcohol, which I will probably need to get through this night so I take a sip. Yup, definitely alcohol. “Ally, I wasn’t expecting you to be here, how are you? You look really nice.” Michael was one of my favorite friends of Ashton, he was really funny and always nice. I gave him a shy smile “Thanks Michael, I’m good, and you?” “Doing pretty well myself, but I think one of the speakers might have blown so I got to go help the guys fix it, I’ll catch up with you guys later!” “Alright, see ya later” Ashton says. Some girl with a very tight dress and too much make up walks by and winks at Ashton. He looks at me almost asking for my approval “Just go” I state and smile, and just like that I’m left alone to entertain myself after only fifteen minutes of being at this stupid part, lovely. I take another big sip of the drink I was holding and make my way through the crowd of intoxicated teenagers all dancing to the music that’s at an ear splitting volume. I look around the main level of the house for an empty bedroom to read in or something, hoping to not run into anyone on accident. I find a door and knock on it but no one says anything so I just walk in to be greeted by none other than Calum Hood and some random girl he was probably about to hook up with. Surprise, surprise. ”Oh my god, um, I’m sorry I’ll go now” Calum moves from his previous position from on top of that girl and stands up. “Oh hey, you’re Ashton’s friend aren’t you? Allison, right?” Realizing that I most likely killed the mood and her and Calum were no longer about to hook up, the girl gets up and gives me a dirty look as she makes her way past me and out of the room. “It’s Ally actually. I really didn’t mean to, uh, interrupt. I was just looking for a quiet room to read in.” “You do know your at a party right? Nobody reads at a party.” “Well, I’m sorry that I would rather read than get drunk and hook up with some asshole.” I snap. He doesn’t even look phased by this comment. “Ouch princess, that almost hurt! Whatever, the rooms all yours to read and what not.” He states sarcastically. I roll my eyes at him and lock the door once he’s gone. I knew I wouldn’t like him.
