Chapter 6: Why do bad things happen to good people

A drunk man comes up to our table and starts to scream at us and grabs John by his hair and starts

to pull him of his chair. Brad stands up and starts to ask him what he thinks he doing and he looks at

Brad and sucker punches him. "OMG Brad" Brad looks at him and swung and knocked him out with

one punch. Carrie : Brad, John are you guys ok? Call the cops please I say to the waitress. The cops

show up and take him to jail. John says to us, that was my step dad. The cops walk over to us and tell

us we have to take John home, his mom wants him home. Well he doesn't want to go home I say to

the cop. " You have no say in what he does Ms. Underwood. So Brad and I take him home, on drive

home John wouldn't stop saying he didn't want to go home. We arrive at his house and we take him

inside. His mom comes to the door. Hello I'm Carrie Underwood and this is Brad Paisley, were sorry

for keeping your son out so late. Hey John here is my number if you need anything make sure you

call me if anything happens you can even text me if you want. Ill pick you up tomorrow from school

and take you home alright. "Thank you Carrie"

Brad and I head back to my house. We explain to my parents what happened today and who John

Luke was. They felt almost as bad as Brad and I did. Brad and my family ate dinner then we went to

my room and laid in bed and watched a movie till I got a text from John Luke. " Hey Carrie, Its John

Luke I'm in the hospital. When I got home my mom and her boyfriend beat me almost to death, I'm

alright but in a lot of pain and my left eye is swollen shut." I couldn't even read the rest of the text I

start to cry and Brad looks at me. " What's wrong Carrie?" I tell him and we rush off to the hospital.

We ask the lady at the front desk what room he is in and we run up to his room.

CARRIE'S POV:

We walk into his room and I see him laying there. What happened John I ask him all nervous? He

looks at me shocked that I'm there. "Hi Carrie Hi Brad he says. Well my mom and her boyfriend were

in their room doing only god knows what and I wanted to text you and tell you what was going on and

they came in my room and started yelling at me and start to hit me, after I got beat up they locked me

in my room and I called 911 and they came." She is here too because she OD on the drugs. They

don't know if she's going to make it. My step dad is out of jail too so I'm scared he's going to come

here and hurt me."  Don't worry John we will make sure nothing further happens to you. We will be

right by your side. The nurse walks in and talks to us telling us about what happened and she tells us

we cant stay the night but a Child Protective Services worker is coming in the morning tomorrow so

you can talk with her. She pulls me into the hall way and says that his mom did passes away from the

drugs and that his dad will not be let into the hospital since he doesn't want to see him and that he
