LEO POV

I saw the deadly blow being thrown at Jason. Piper screams echoed in my head as I jumped instinctively, trying to protect my best friend. I felt the poisonous claws as they tore my abdomen. I gasped in pain. Jason killed the monster, fighting viciously with a fury I'd never seen before and I saw Piper and him come running. That was when all my world went black.

I saw blackness and the Fates approached. I gasped and bowed respectfully.

"Rise young hero." One said and I stood up.

"We have encountered a strange situation with your string." Another informed.

"It is strange indeed but not unheard of." The last one said gravely. Their pattern repeated.

"You have been given a choice."

"You have a month no more, no less."

"You will go through memories once forgotten in order to decide."

"With all due respect Lady Fates, what my decision I must make?" I asked, confused.

"You must decide"

"Whether you live..."

"Or whether you die"

Then they disappeared.

At first I thought it would be an easy decision. I mean live or die? Who doesn't want to live? Then it hit me. Death is peace. Eternal peace. I could get away from my problems. I could get rid of my troubles. I could be free of the pain that was mostly mental. Pain that stabbed me like a more than being stabbed with one million knives dipped in poison, but it came at a cost. I could no longer be with my friends. Not to mention they'd be disappointed in me, if I ever chose to die. Also if I died would Jason even ever forgive himself? Would Calypso ever escape from her island? But then it was so tempting. Wait... the fates said to watch memories to help his decision. Yeah, I'll watch my most memorable moments -good and bad- and then make my decision...

PIPER POV

I screamed as the monster lifted its poisonous claws. I knew it was gonna kill my boyfriend. Suddenly Leo was there. The blow hitting him full on. I stood in shock as Jason killed the beast. I snapped out of my shock as I saw Jason run to Leo and I forced my legs to run as well. I gasped. Leo was a sickly pale. He had fallen unconscious. I saw Jason check his pulse.

"He's still alive," Jason said, "but we need to get him back to camp so an Apollo camper can help him." I grabbed Leo's arm and Jason grabbed his other arm. I frowned at how light all Leo was. He was so light I could probably have carried him on my own with ease. Actually, I don't think Leo's eaten at all since I saw him eat tacos last week. I snapped out of my thoughts when Will took Leo. We had gotten to the infirmary.

"He's going into a coma!" Will yelled to the other rushing sons of Apollo. Then we saw a bright flash of light. The fates appeared before us. Everyone bowed, then the camp healers, trying not to look distracted, went back to work. The fates turned to me and Jason.

"Piper, Jason, your friends string is in a rare state. He will choose whether to live or die. He has a month to do so. What he doesn't know is while he is choosing, you will be watching what memories and thoughts play through his head." Me and Jason smiled in relief. We were certain he would choose life. I mean he's Leo Valdez. He doesn't have a care in the world. Let alone a death wish.

Then we were in a room with the seven (who the Fates also told) with a misty screen and a couch. We sat down and watched him get told by the fates what was going on. Then his thoughts started to play.

"Death is peace. Eternal peace." He thought. I gasped.

" I could get away from my problems. I could get rid of my troubles. I could be free of the pain that was mostly Mental. Pain that stabbed me like a more than being stabbed with one million knives dipped in poison," I gasped in horror with the rest of the seven. What was he talking about?

"but it comes at a cost. I could no longer be with my friends. Not to mention they'd be disappointed in me, if I ever chose to die. Also if I died would Jason even ever forgive himself? Would Calypso ever escape from her island?" I sighed in relief.

"But then it's so tempting!" I frowned and looked down.

"Wait... the fates said to watch memories to help my decision. Yeah, I'll watch my most memorable moments -good and bad- and then make my decision..." I looked up in interest. That is when I realized I don't know anything about Leo's past. I know he's a run away. That's about it. Then the memory started.
