PIPER POV

I watched the treacherous torment that Leo went through. I saw him beaten, I saw him run, and now him as happy.

Memory Begins

Leo was overjoyed as he scrambled out of the car. He was being adopted! He was going to escape this cruel world of foster homes. His new parents were kind. Even after the social worker left! Then it happened....

Leo, his mom, and dad, were walking down the sidewalk when there was a gun shot. It embedded itself in Leo's leg. Leo fell. The couple grabbed him and gunshots echoed throughout the park as people screamed and ran. Then a bullet hit Leo's mom and she fell to the ground. The man tripped and dropped Leo. Leo's head hit a rock and his vision went black...

Spots danced in Leo's eyes as a light was shining in them. A doctor was sitting there on a computer. And Leo groaned, alerting the doctor he was awake. The doctor was shocked to say the least. Leo realized he couldn't move his body. It was stiff.

"Hey guys! Guys come here!" The doctor yelled, "it's a miracle!"

After that the room was bombarded with doctors and nurses. Then after everyone calmed down, a doctor leaned over Leo.

"Leo, blink twice if you can hear me." Leo blinked twice. A look of realization crossed the doctor's face.

"Leo, you've been in a coma for two years after a shooting in the park. Your adoptive parents didn't make it. I'm sorry. I really am." Leo felt a single tear drift his cheek. That's all his body could do. If he had more ability, he probably would've curled up in a
Ball and sobbed. In that moment he made a new runaway rule. Don't stop running.

Memory Ends

At the beginning of this, I was certain Leo would choose life. I mean he always acted so happy, but he was broken on the inside. Not only that, but I didn't know how to repair him. Not even charmspeak could help him. I wasn't sure I'd choose life if I was in his place. I can only hope he makes the right choice. Whatever that is....
