After Percy and Annabeth went into Tartarus, the group drifted apart emotionally. Nico was slightly crazy, Leo blamed himself, Jason felt guilty and unsure if the quest would succeed with out the other leaders, Frank and Hazel were too distracted mourning the loss of their friends, and Piper had witnessed the pain and suffering love can bring you. The monster attacks just got worse and worse when they couldn't connect. After all, Percy was their glue.
