Today is the day. I stand at the gate in awe. The marble wall around the school is a pristine snowy white. I see my reflection smiling back at me. I brush through my long brown hair with what little fingernails I have.
As I walk through the metal gates, a short blonde girl walks up to me. "Hi, what's your name? I'm Kia," she mutters. I can't help but stare at her teeth. "What, you've never met a vampire before?" she asks, sounding a bit irate.
"Actually, no. I live in Nymph Valley." "You're too tall to be a Nymph," she said. "Well, I'm actually an angel. My wings were cut off by the dark lady Xanthia," I explained. "Did you lose your power along with your wings?" Kia asked. "No," I told her. "Show me," she commanded.
I concentrate on Kia. A bright gold aura appears around her as she begins to levitate. "Can you make yourself levitate?" she asks, obviously curious. "Well, most likely yes. I wouldn't try it; It's hard to control yourself while levitating." I explain. "Please? Please please please?" she begged. "Ok, fine. I'm blaming you if I die."
I gently brought her down. "Easy, easy," Kia said in a shaky voice. Her feet lightly hit the cobblestone path. "Okay, here it goes." I close my eyes and concentrate all of my energy.
I feel myself levitate. Higher, higher... I concentrate hard. Suddenly, I can't hear anything. I open my eyes. I feel my wings against the air. Suddenly, I am pressed against the ground. I feel a sharp pain down my back. I am soon lying in a pool of my own blood. "Grell, run!"
I stand there in horror. That was my mom's voice. I don't know what happened. All I know is I have to save my parents. I jump in front of Xanthia. She drops my parents and tackles me. I feel her claws through my chest, cutting through my ribs. I see my own heart, beating.
Her claw gets closer... closer... closer... My eyes open. The first thing I see is Kia looking down at me, concern in her eyes. I look at the ground, then at my arm. A lightning-like burn stretches from my index finger to my forearm. The scars where my wings used to be sting, and hot tears flow down my cheek. "What just happened?" Kia asks. "I... I don't know," I mutter. "Are you homesick at all?" she asks. "I don't know. I just suddenly had a flashback to... to when my parents died."
"I never got your name anyways. What is it?" "Grell," I answered.
