It had been about a week since Alex told Jack about his and Lisa's big step in their relationship. Alex was definitely the kind of guy who liked to take things slow and paced himself rather than fuck on the first date.

Jack was quite the opposite, in fact. He usually let his feelings act for him instead of his mind, and he'd end up fucking a random guy (sometimes a girl if he was bored) out of pure lust.

Maybe Jack did this as a cover-up, to hide his true feelings from Alex. Maybe he did this because he wanted for someone to want him. He wasn't sure. All he wanted was Alex to be his.

Jack was sitting boredly in class, staring at the old clock that had been hung on the ugly off-white painted walls in the room that they dared call their classroom.

It was math and Jack hated math, so inevitably, he drew nearly 15 different versions of the Blink-182 bunny in his notebook instead of taking notes.

Jack was excited because in a few days, it would be the 4th of July, and he was going to write a song for Alex. Technically, he already did write it, but now he has to come up with the guitar parts and that is definitely the hardest part.

On Independence Day, he would take Alex into his room and while the fireworks are popping and making beautiful patterns, Jack would sing him the song.

Of course, the plan was flawed and it wasn't perfect, and Alex had a serious girlfriend (technically, so did Jack). So he wasn't sure what kind of reaction to expect. All he knew was the he couldn't keep his love to himself for much longer.

It was finally the 4th of July. Since Jack first made his plan, he had to wait exactly 47 days (he counted) until he would sing to Alex, and the day was finally here.

They were all at Alex's house, Rian, Zack and Holly too, although the only one who knew of Jack's plan was Holly. The only person who even know that Jack was gay is Holly. He was honestly afraid that his guy friends would get weirded out, so he kept his mouth shut.

He asked if he could date Holly so he could make Alex jealous, and she figured out the rest. Holly is actually a lesbian, so she was more than happy to play along and keep Jack's secret. The two were  actually fairly good friends so it was easy to pretend they were lovers (It was ironic how Holly actually wanted Lisa when Jack wanted Alex).

So pretty much everyone was here except Alex and Lisa, so Jack waited. They were all hanging outside because their parents had invited pretty much their whole neighborhood over, so there were tons of people. There were several faces that Jack didn't know of.

This kid, Matt, who looked maybe a little older than Jack, was really cute (Not as cute as Alex, but still cute). And there's a few new faces like Evan and Vinny that he hasn't seen before today.

They all got along well and talked, until Jack excused himself to see if Alex was here. Oddly enough, he couldn't find Alex, so he dug out his learner's permit and borrowed his brothers car so he could drive to Alex's place.

The drive was a bit frustrating because Jack had an awful feeling in his gut. He shook it off as nothing and kept driving until he reached his destination.

With his New Found Glory pullover on, he hopped out of the car and locked it, making his way to Alex's front door. He knocked, just to be polite, but he soon grew tired of waiting outside in the chilly air and it was already getting dark, so he picked up the small potted plant on the floor and found the spare house key underneath it.

Opening the door with no caution (it was pretty much his second home), he stepped foot inside, looking around.

"Alex?" He called, searching for his best friend.

Jack swore he heard someone's voice, so he walked upstairs to where Alex's bedroom was. And that's when his heart sunk.

He could hear Alex and Lisa's moans together, and it didn't take a genius to know what they were doing, alone, in his room.

Jack sighed and walked back downstairs and closed the door softly so Alex wouldn't know Jack had been there. Once he got outside, he ran to his car and fumbled with the keys in the ignition, but finally got it started. He drove to the woods as fast as he could.

He sat in his car for moment, looking outside where it was already dark. This place in the woods, the place where Alex and Jack come after school every day since they were seven, it brought back lots of memories.

He gripped his hands on the steering wheel, not even trying to stop his tears at that point.

Of course, Alex would never be with Jack. Never. Because Alex had someone else, obviously, and he was straight. Jack didn't know why he thought he had a chance.

His phone vibrated through his pocket, but he really didn't want to check it. It was probably Rian asking where he was. Nonetheless, he grabbed his phone and unlocked it to see several missed texts from Rian, one from Holly and one from Alex.

Without a second thought, he immediately opened Alex's message and read it.

hey im on my way to ur house. lisas w/ me

Jack sighed and wiped his tears away with his oversized jacket sleeve, knowing fully well that he couldn't let his emotions get in the way. He replied.

mmk cool im at the store picking up some drinks so i might be there after you

Jack decided it was easier to fake happiness and truth via text messages rather than a face to face conversation. He really didn't want to go to his house now that Alex would be there as well.

He wasn't really sure why, but Jack wanted to stay away from Alex for a little while so he could get his feelings under control. He though that maybe, if he sees Alex right now, Jack would do something irrational or have a spur of the moment decision and end up ruining their friendship because of his selfishness.

So staying away from Alex is the best for right now.
