When I walk into school everyone is rushing past me. I try to turn and see what happened, but I can’t over the kids’ heads. Lisa runs up to me.

“Did you see what happened?”

“No I just came into school, what?” I ask approaching my locker.

“Mrs. Patterson got beat up.”

“You mean like my math teacher Mrs. Patterson?” I ask opening up my locker and putting my bag inside.

“Yea.”

“By who?” I ask taking my math book out, oh the irony.

“No one knows, everyone says it was a ninth grader.”

“Hey Lisa,” Justin says walking past with one of his friends.

“Hey.”

“Ohmigod. You are so lucky to be dating him,” I say after he walks away.

Lisa smiles, “I know!”

We both scream and jump up in down until people start staring at us.

“Move along people,” I say. “Nothing to see here.”

Lisa laughs, “I gotta go. See ya at lunch.”

“Kay, bye.”

When I walk into math class everyone is all over the place. Jackson and his friends are sitting by the windows on desks, Kiera and her friends are in full gossip mode, probably talking about Lisa or maybe Mrs. Patterson.

“Yea. But why did he pick her?” I hear Kiera ask and I know she’s definitely talking about Li.

I walk to my seat, front desk, first row as it is in every class. I turn toward Alice, who’s next to me.

“Hey. So what did you get for number…”

“Hey! Get down off those desks!” The sub yells as he walks in and I whip my head behind me, making my red hair go all over the place.

I snicker and Jackson looks at me, “Turn around Styles.”

I stick my tongue out at him. He’s so ignorant.

When I turn around I’m face to face with the man who’s been following me.

“Beware,” he says and runs out of the room.

“What was that Piper?” Alice asks me making sure if I’m ok.

“I…don’t…know…”

The rest of the day goes by fast, but I can’t find Lisa anywhere.

“Justin, have you seen Lisa?” I say grabbing him by his arm in the hallway.

“No. Sorry Piper.”

“It’s okay I just wanted to talk to her,” I say and run to lunch.

There she is, sure enough sitting at our table eating.

“Where were you all day?” I say sitting on the bench with one leg underneath and one leg outside.

“Here, there, everywhere. Why?”

“Because that guy was the teacher for my math class.”

“Wait!” She yells choking on her food. I pat her back. “You mean the guy who is following us?”

“Yea. He told me ‘beware’ and then ran out of the classroom. It was really weird,” I say getting up, so I can sit right.

When I get up, I turn to my left and out the door I see blonde hair and half a face. And not just any blonde hair, Emily’s blonde hair.

“Em?” I squeak.

“What?” Lisa asks getting up. She sees it too. “Emily?”

When I walk toward the persons she runs away, I look out the door for her, but she’s no where to be found.

“Was that her?” Lisa asks when I return.

“No. I mean it can’t be. She’s dead, right?”
