Finally, I can see the light at the end of this miserable tunnel called high school.
Yes, it is my senior year and yes, I am way too excited to leave this place. Because today is just the first day of school.
Fiddling with my thumbs, I sat quietly in front of the room, waiting for my fabulous art teacher to enter the room.
"Sol," a divine voice called for my attention.
Is this a dream? This is the first time he said my name! It so out of the blue.
Forgive my childish excitement. If you were brought up by conservative parents, and therefore have been taught to never initiate a conversation with the guy you like, you'd understand.
"Yes," I replied automatically as I search the room for the voice's owner.
To worsen this frenzy, he sat in beside me and looks at me casually.
How incident of him to make my heart pound like this early in the morning, and just sit there like its nothing?!
"Can I see your schedule for this term?" He asked while holding his class schedule in front of me, as if he wants to exchange it with mine.
He's acting like we know each other. He's too relaxed. Why?
"Here." I said, giving the paper to him.
I have no intentions of taking his, but he places it in front of me. So I picked it up and read it.
We have art together, we have English class! Yes! I love his poems. And we have the same lunch schedule.
Not that it matters. I don't eat lunch at the cafeteria to see him anyways. So-
"You have 4th period lunch too."
"Yeah."
"You should come have lunch with us."
Budump! Budump! Budump! Beeeeeeeep~
Clear!
"I don't really eat at the cafeteria."
"That's why I never see you at lunch."
Does this mean he looks for me during lunch last year?!
"Yeah. I eat lunch at Mr. Hussef's room. Its too noisy at the cafeteria."
"Well, if you ever feel like you need to hear noise, come sit with me at lunch."
"Sure. When ever that happens."
Uh. Ok. My high school crush just invited me to eat lunch with him on the first day of school? Isn't this too sudden? Something is weird?
Omg! Did he found out that I like him? Omg! Is that why he's being like this? Does he feel like he's obligated to be nice to me because he feels sorry that I like him but he doesn't like me back?
"Calm down, Sol. You're over thinking it." Mr. Hussef said as he composedly ate his cold onion salad.
"Then... What do you think it is?"
"I think he's a senior who just wants to reach out to other seniors and be friendly to everyone he didn't paid attention to before. You know, doing the things while you can."
"I don't know. Maybe it is that. But I just think its too sudden."
"Sian is a can-do guy. He's an achiever. Maybe he strategically talked to you first thing in the morning, of the year, to get things started."
