x; just people

"Someone could call themselves a hero and still walk around killing dozens. Someone else could be labelled a villain for trying to stop them. Plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human."
― V.E. Schwab

Dan and Benji were together at work this time, and Benji was sitting on a chair, Dan leaning against the counter. The bell rang, door opened, and standing at the door was a red haired man. He headed over, putting one hand on the counter. "I'm M-" He broke off, blinking a couple times, "I'm Edward." He finally said, American accent ringing out. The other man, a green haired man, that came in after him was around the same height, maybe shorter.

"Jack," He added, Irish accent thick, and he smiled, waving. "We're here to get the new Detective Comics."

Benji hummed, and he sat up, reaching under the counter. When he came back up, slipping the comic over the counter, he looked from Jack to the so-called Edward. He then scanned it, before giving both of them a silly smile. "Who's payin'?" He asked, and Jack offered him a bill. "Thanks, dude." He mused, and offered the guy the change.

"Thank you." Edward beamed, and then took Jack's hand, squeezing it. Then he grabbed the comic. "Let's go, Jack." He added, leaning over to kiss his partner's cheek affectionately.

After they left, Benji furrowed his eyebrows, lips pressing together. "Oh no," He mumbled, "He looked familiar." He put his hands on the counter, eyes flickering down, and then back to Dan. "Know anyone who works with forensics? I don't have my own personal Barry Allen."

Dan winced. "They were wearing thick winter gloves, Benji. It's cold outside." He explained quietly, and then the front door opened again, a bright looking Analise Hathaway skipping in, one arm around her apparent best friend. However, when Analise pressed a kiss to Hayley's nose, Benji shrieked.

"You're a lesbian," He whispered, "I didn't know you guys existed outside of the internet." His tone was obviously joking, and as Analise headed up to the counter, she glared teasingly at him.

"If you don't let me buy the next issue of Blue Beetle, I will kiss this woman right here and right now." She said teasingly, waving a finger, and reached for Hayley's hand to pull her over. "Also not a lesbian." She added after a moment, "Polysexual, Benji. It exists." There was a long pause, and then Hayley shrugged, laying a hand on the counter. She leaned over to press a kiss to her girlfriend's lips.

As Benji slid over the comic of Blue Beetle, he met Analise's eyes. "Is this new?" He asked, and Hayley shrugged again, while Analise nodded bashfully. He smiled brightly, and the door opened again. This time, Dick entered, throwing an arm around Hayley and pressing a kiss to her temple, before leaning over to pull Benji close so he could press a kiss to his lips. "Hi." Benji said sheepishly when Dick pulled away, his cheeks practically burning, "Hi." He repeated.

"Hi." Dick smiled towards him, patting his boyfriend's cheek before he looked to Dan. "I came in 'cause... We have a suspect arrested for being the Dark Devil. I don't think he's the right guy." His eyes went to the ground, and then up to Dan. "His name is Felix, but Benji said the guy had green hair, and Felix's hair is blue-" He broke off, frustrated. "I hate knowing things I shouldn't." He added.

Benji rounded the counter and pulled Dick into a hug. "I'm sorry." He muttered, "You shouldn't have to know."

Dick turned a little bit and tipped Benji's head up, pressing a kiss to his lips. "I'm okay knowing them for you," He murmured, "You're worth it." He leaned his head down, laying it on his boyfriend's shoulder. Hayley and Analise took this as a cue to leave. "I should go, my lunch break ends soon." He pat Benji's cheek affectionately, "See you at home." He looked up to Dan, smiling too. "See you tonight." He added. Then he left both of them in the comic shop.

"Phil's too busy," Dan sighed, leaning his elbow on the counter, "apparently. He doesn't drop by and give me cute messages."

"I don't?" Phil said from the entrance, amused. Joey was following him, hair a different colour than it had been the last time. It was pink on the top, the sides purple. "I think this counts as dropping by." He headed up to the counter, pressing a kiss to the edge of Dan's lips. "What do you want as a cute message?" He teased, "Love you. We have to go though. I just wanted to say hi." He winked at Benji, turning and ushering Joey from the store.

Benji blinked. "That was planned, right?" He asked, "That had to be planned."
