xvi; understand me

"When you understand, that what you're telling is just a story. It isn't happening anymore. When you realize the story you're telling is just words, when you can just crumble up and throw your past in the trashcan, then we'll figure out who you're going to be."

―  Chuck Palahniuk, Invisible Monsters

Benji held onto Jack's hair to tilt his head up to where Phil stood, and he was silent as his boyfriend whistled, before he fell silent and sharp blue eyes landed onto the green haired Irish man. "Give me one reason not to shoot you and move out of the city." He said, and there was a long silence before Jack laughed, stretching his legs out despite being tied to a chair. "Times running out, leprechaun. " He nearly taunted.

Grinning, Benji leaned on the back of his chair. "Time," He repeated with a smirk, "is running out." He tugged hard, and Jack's hands yanked on their ties, giving a groan of pain before his head tilted back.

He stayed absolutely silent after that.

"Don't hurt him!" Mark said from where he was sitting too, on the ground, handcuffed to a metal pipe that was connected to a wall. "Please, please... Don't!" His voice rose, and Benji tugged harder just to see the man whimper, smiled something devilish and looked to Phil.

"You sure we should do this in front of the boyfriend? Hell, Philly, it's like you and Danny boy upstairs, 'cept red-head's the sweet one, and green's the crazy, you know, you." He frowned, and then shrugged. "All I'm saying is that... Well, I don't think you'd want Dan to see you tortured." He met eyes with his best friend, and Phil sighed. "Okay." He mumbled, and disappeared upstairs to grab something. Naturally, Benji bent down and uncuffed Mark, and then looked to Jack.

He thought of something to say, and decided on, "You run, you hear me? Don't turn back. Run as fast as you can as far as you can, change your identity, never come back. There's a... There's a tunnel right here. Punch me in the face." He muttered as he untied Jack. The Irishman took no hesitation in punching him right in the face, repeating before he slammed him against the wall.

"Thank you." He said after a moment, and then disappeared, green hair vanishing in the dark of the tunnel with Mark, the tunnel closing.

If Dan hadn't let them loose in trust, back then, they never would have gotten anywhere in life.

Benji would take them down if things came down to it, but this was a fresh start for them. Maybe now, they could focus on their relationship, or something cheesy like that.

Maybe they could stop being so dark and go back to a happy beginning.

Maybe they could rewrite their own story, and maybe this time, it could be happy, could be absolutely innocent.
