I was leaving my apartment and I shut off all of my lights and took the needle off of the record player. I suddenly picked up my bag and headed out the door. The weather man said it was going to be bad tonight so, I brought my umbrella just in case.
I got in my car and started driving to the café uptown. I was having car troubles in the process and was hoping my car would start as soon as left the café, but nothing goes right for me. Or I mean, that's what I thought. I was thinking about singing tonight because I brought my guitar. My guitar was always in the backseat of the car just like if I were to bring my child with me. That's how much my guitar means to me.
I thought about singing "Blackbird" by The Beatles. Although, Joni Mitchell or Bob Dylan would've been nice too. But, that's for next weekend. I drove past a couple places with protesters holding up signs to let the Vietnam soldiers come home and to only bring peace and love. I joined one of those rallies before but, it never seemed to be my thing. People around here like to get violent sometimes. And the rallies aren't always peaceful.
"It's going to be a bad night out tonight, so make sure to have a raincoat or an umbrella!" I hear on the radio. I turn it down to soothe my mind. I'm almost to the Café. I pull in in front of it to see my friends standing outside. "Lillie!" I hear Karly and Liv shout my name. "Hey, guys. How are you?" I answer.
"Pretty good, Noah's coming out tonight and I'm so happy!" I hear Liv say with jolts of excitement.
"No way, that's pretty sweet." I reply. Liv and Noah were probably one of the greatest couples I ever knew. Started off when they were in junior high and now we're out of college.
"Yep. When do you think he's gonna ask me to marry him?" She asks and giggles.
"I don't know, why don't you ask him?" I say getting my guitar out of the backseat.
"Are you crazy?.. wait, don't even answer that." Liv says as I shut the back door.
"Well, I mean. I guess so." I say calmly.
"You seem tired." Karly says.
"I barely slept." I reply.
"Well, let's go get a drink." She says and they take my hands and Liv grabs my guitar and we walk inside. I can hear the wonderful calm music fill my ears. Tonight Open-Mic Night and I know this'll be special.
"Hm. Noah isn't here yet?" Liv asks the bartender.
"No, he hasn't checked in. But, his shift starts in less than an hour. I can ring him on the telephone if you want." The bartender replies cleaning out a shot glass with his rag.
"No that's fine, Daniel. Thank you, though." She smiles and turns to me.
"Let's go sit. Noah should be here soon." She says.
"Okay." Karly replies and I nod.
"So, Karly, where's Zachariah?" I ask.
"He's not here yet. He'll be around when Noah gets here, I'm sure." She says as she looks down at the menu.
I look around to see if there was anyone here for me. I'm so desperate, I'm just waiting for someone to sweep me off of my feet. I look out of the window to see the backwards letters that spell "Danny's Café" and see people walking past it. Daniel bought this place at 18 and it became a big part of my life. It might most definitely change it, someday.
