Chapter 1
"Jenna Maria Stanley, what a pleasant name." A man threw a knife at her picture.
"S--sir," the woman before him said. "I--I believe she has the power to change the outcome of your war."
The man looked about his office. The thick cedar door that sat at the head of it boar his family crest from centuries ago, the five-clawed dragon. There were no windows, bringing home the fear that he loved to instill in his subjects. Fear, yes. But he had to keep up a good face with them, or else he faced an uprising. This room was bare, apart from his large mahogany desk that now held many stacks of paperwork and his folded hands.
He sat at the back of the room, behind his desk, with a woman-a witch-in front of him. "Taylor, when you look at my office, what is it that you see?"
"I see anger, anger and something else. Something that scares me."
"That something, is me." He looked to the guards riddled along the office walls. "I suggest you leave now or you'll have bigger problems than fear." She practically ran from the room in an effort to get away from him.
Jenna Maria Stanley. The name of the girl that would no doubt bring about his downfall.
*JJ's POV*
I ran ahead of Jennifer, teasing her. I turned around and walked backwards beside her.
"Come on Jenny!" I whined playfully on our way to school. "It's the last day of our sophomore year! Live a little! Then carry me!"
"No. I have schoolwork that I'm worried about, miss straight A's. Caitie, help me out." Jennifer turned to Caitlyn for help.
"Sorry. I claim innocence in this. Morgan and I are not getting involved in this." She kept walking.
"Traitor!" Jennifer called to her. I gave her the puppy dog face and she sighed. "Fine! I give in!" I clapped a little and jumped on her back.
After school, my friends and I were walking back to our homes, almost next door neighbors.
"I'm thinking a shopping trip tomorrow to celebrate the last day of school." I said, breaking the comfortable silence.
"Really?" Morgan groaned.
"Another one?" Caitie sighed.
"Hey! Shopping is great thank you!" Jenny stood by me. I high-fived her, happy to have someone on my side.
"Ok, come on Morgan, let's just agree. There is something I was wanting to get..." Caitie lied.
I rolled my eyes at her lie. "You mean you want to go see the cute guy that works in Macy's."
She blushed and walked off to go into her house. I thought I was her frowning as she went.
I said goodbye to Morgan and Jennifer and walked in my front door. "Mom! I'm home!"
"Living room!" Mom called. I walked in and dropped my backpack on the ground beside the couch before sinking down into the fabric beside it. "How was school?"
"Long." She was sitting on the chair across from me on the phone. She quickly got off and got up to sit next to me. "What's up?"
"Dad's going to be home in a few hours, just in time for dinner." She said, a big smile on her face. "He's getting home a day early!"
"Really?" I grinned hugely. My dad had a job that kept him away from home most of the time, and it was a big occasion when he was home. The fact that he was getting home EARLY was big enough by itself. "So for dinner we're having..."
