Chapter 4

I told Jenny and Morgan the part I could and they left, after some insistence that I really did just need time. I was glad that she knew some of my history, but I didn't want to risk what might happen if she found out the rest.

Ellen, Mark, and I went to a deserted part of the forest and they taught me how to control the visions. I discovered that I could see the future and past alike. I watched everything that my parents did with me before...well, anyway, after that I saw why I had to be adopted.

Ellen had been found out by someone who lived to kill witches, and Mark had died to protect her. The guy had gotten to Ellen, who in turn, died to protect me. She handed me to her friend who put me on the doorstep of my new parents' house and ran. Her friend had already met my parents, so she knew that they were good people who could take care of me.

Now I'm looking for Caitlyn, but I can't seem to find her. I need to ask Ellen about that...as if summoned by my thoughts, she appeared beside me. "Jenna? Why have you been crying? Are you okay?" She looked really scared that something had happened to me.

"Nothing. Just, I had to lie to one of my closest friends, and I'm not happy about it. And I'm scared. I can't see Caitlyn, and it worries me. What's happening?" I was about to cry again.

"Oh honey. Nothing is wrong, you just don't have full control yet. After a few more days of practice, you'll see. Don't worry." She put her arms around me. "I am so happy right now. Now that you know, I can talk to you any time I want. I've not really been a mother in so long, I've almost forgotten how to take care of a little girl."

She smiled at me, then everything went dark. I couldn't see or hear anything. But before I had time to fully register that, I heard an ear piercing scream. I realized it was my own, but my mouth was closed

"Hello." I heard a very familiar voice behind me. I turned slowly, and discovered that everyone that I knew stood behind myself. Not me as in me, but someone that looked exactly like me. I saw Morgan, Jenny, Jake, Caitlyn, Mom, Dad, and all of the students from my school. They looked at me like they hated my guts.

Then they charged.

I screamed. Then, I was back with my mom, in my room; just as I had been before. "Ellen? Did you see that?" I looked over at her. She backed away from me, murmuring something.

"No, no it can't be. I protected her." Then I heard myself talk, but I had no control over anything.

"Ellen, how lovely to see you again. You may have protected Jenna from me for that time, but now I'm back, and stronger than ever. Over time I have discovered many useful—" Ellen stopped him.

"John, please don't do this." She was about to cry. "Please don't. You don't want her, you want me. Take me, leave her." I tried to speak, rebuke her, but I started to choke. "JOHN! Please stop! Let her go!" Mark appeared then, and stood in front of me, looking worried and...almost scared.

"Ellen, it can't be John. She'll be fine." Then he spoke to me. "Jenna, remember why you need to live. Remember all the people that need you here. Fight him, force him to leave you alone."

I tried, but I could feel myself getting weak. I tried, hard, again and again.

I thought of the people that I had called parents for so long now.

I thought of my friends; Morgan, who listened to everything I had to say and sympathized with me; Jenny, who kept me and the rest of my friends tied together no matter what; and Caitlyn who has just disappeared without a word, who had stayed strong throughout everything, and who kept the rest of us upbeat when things were tough.
