Chapter 13

It had been a year since Jake had killed Kathy, and I still expected to wake up with a vampire over me. I had been having the same dream every time I fell asleep, running from a monster, saving an Alone, almost getting drained by that Alone. I had convinced Caitlyn to make my room sound proof, so everyone could sleep through my nightmares. No matter how low I turned the air in my room, I woke up with sweat covering me, glistening in the faint moonlight.

Once I had even woken screaming.

It was now Monday. I had just woken to find myself screaming for him to stop. I squinted at the bright light streaming in through my window. I turned my head to the left and peeled my eyelids open to look at the clock.

"Five o'clock! Just keeps getting earlier and earlier!" I wish I could find a way to block the dreams, but no one that I went to for answers knew. I got up and washed myself, getting ready for the day.

"Jenna!" Mom yelled up. "You awake yet?!" I had already washed and dried myself, done my hair, and cleaned up my room a little.

"Yeah Mom! Have been since five!" I yelled back.

"Well it's seven so get Hannah and get down here!"

I sighed. I was supposed to wake up Hannah each morning for her training. Even if she wasn't going to be a hunter, she needed to be able to defend herself against evil limpias. That's what supernatural creatures are called, limpia. It's Latin for vampire.

I walked into Hannah's room, smiling at her figure. She was growing into a very pretty young lady. Long, silken blonde hair flowing to her hips, curvy figure that all the girls her age envied, glowing blue eyes that could just make your heart burst, a nice height might I add-a stunning five foot seven only added to her beauty. She wore the best dresses at the nicest occasions, she was a girl that most envy with passion.

"Hannah." I said, pulling back the covers to reveal her purple heart spotted pj's. "Time for school."

"No," she grumbled. "Five more minutes."

"Sorry, but Mom wants us both downstairs ASAP. Get up."

"No. I'm asleep."

"Fine." I said sighing. "Just know that you forced my hand." I reached down and started tickling her. I knew she hated it. "Wake up!"

"Ok, ok, ok!" She said, shoving me off her. "I'm awake! Give me five minutes and I'll be down."

Five minutes later I was sitting at the table eating breakfast with Hannah and Caitlyn. Caitlyn was the stark opposite of Hannah. Short, shoulder length brown hair that wouldn't curl for anything, and five foot six with a limp from a recent run in with Nick. She was pretty, but not as much so as Hannah.

Hannah was still mad at me for waking her up like I did, she seemed glum. Caitlyn and I were talking about our first day in junior year. "Just think about it! We're juniors! And we're alive!" I nodded gleefully.

"I get to go to seventh grade today." Hannah stated blankly.

"Yeah! You get to make all new friends!" Caitlyn's eyes sparkled with excitement.

"But I like my old friends." She grumbled.

"Think of it this way." I said, trying to cheer her up. "You get to be the new girl, so all the nice people will say hi. Nome of the mean girls will say hi, so you can make nice friends." I stuffed a bite of my cereal in my mouth.

"Yeah, I guess."

"Why are you upset?" Caitlyn asked.

"Because. I'm way ahead of my school grade level. Last year my teachers gave me eighth grade school, and now I'll be back down in seventh." Woah, eighth grade? She was one smart chick.
