Chapter 20
He frowned sadly. "I'm Jake."
"Do I know you?"
"You're kidding, right?" He smiled. When I shook my head, he frowned again. "Can you remember anything?" I shook my head and thought, who was I?
"This is going to sound stupid, but do you know who I am? Cause you seem to know me and-I'm bleeding!" I looked around, desperate for something to stop the blood flow. The weird thing was, I never saw it. I smelled it.
The boy called Jake handed me a wet cloth. Wet with what? "Don't worry, it's just water."
"Hey, Jake, Jenna, we need you-what's going on?"
"My name is Jenna?" I asked, wary of the girl.
"Don't worry." He said again. "It's my sister. We're going to help you." The girl looked at me, as if awaiting a response to something she'd said.
"Wait a minute..." Hope filled both their eyes. "Is your name...Emily, by any chance?"
"That's my sister's name. I'm Hannah."
"Oh, right...Hannah. Ok, so I know you, and you're her brother, which means that I can trust you guys. Right?"
"Yeah, is there anything else you remember before we leave?" Jake asked.
I racked my brain but only came up with silly things, so I didn't answer. "We've seen and heard and are some crazy things, so don't just not tell us because it's crazy."
"You can read minds then?"
"Yeah, did you remember that or figure it out?"
"Figured it out. Sorry." He sighed and gestured for me to follow Hannah.
When we got back, I saw a lot of people that I didn't know and grabbed Jake's arm. A ghost came up to me and I squeezed.
"It's okay, Jenna. This is your mom." He looked slightly happy that I was clinging to him and not Hannah. Were we involved?
The woman looked extremely confused and hurt. "Why are you saying that? What happened to her?"
He replayed what had happened, while I tuned out, not wanting to get more confused. I got reacuanted with everyone, and found that after a hug or shaking their hand, I could remember who they were. That happened with everyone but Jake, and I got too caught up in remembering, that I forgot about him.
The next afternoon I was talking to Kyle, and he was explaining my lineage and blood. I could remember their names and what limpia they were, but nothing about myself (Caitlyn said it was because I was so closely tied to Jake). "I'm a whip! That explains how I could smell the blood! And is it normal for newly turned to resist like that?"
"No, not really. That's a lot of blood," he said.
I turned back to find Jake sitting quietly in a corner, watching me but looking down when he met my eyes. "Jake?" I walked over to him. "I'm sorry I can't remember you, but I'm doing the best I can. I heard that that hit should've knocked me out for a while, but I rebounded quickly. I honestly don't know how to do better."
"You're doing great, Jenna. I just wish that you could remember one small inkling of something that has to do with me. I feel like I'm being left out of some big party but everyone else gets to go."
"Come on." I held my hand out. He took it and I pulled him to his feet. "We are going to try to fix this. Take me somewhere that is meaningful to you. Somewhere that I've been with you before."
