Chapter 8

Arria stood with hand on the hilt of her sword as it rested in her scabbard. Wind blew her hair behind her as she studied the defenses of Guerettos. The previous few villages proved easy enough to defeat and place a few of the Ikchani in charge, but she noticed the defenses of Guerettos to be stronger. The village itself wasn't built with defense against a full army in mind, more under the impression of small raids. The gates were made from wood rather than stone, but the gates seemed thick enough to not be easily put aflame.

Arria turned to Adnevia. "What do you think about their defenses."

Adnevia pressed her lips tight. "For a village, their defense is impressive. It doesn't seem they have many warriors, but they have leadership."

Arria nodded. "How should we approach?"

"We will need to be heavily armored. Most of the Ikchani grew accustom to wearing hardly anything, enjoying the comfort of the weather, but now we'll have to be weighed down to prevent arrows from obliterating us."

"Should we charge the gate?" Arria asked.

"I do not believe that would be wise. They know we're here, and they're already defending it heavily. I believe a few escaped from the previous villages to warn them, despite our valiant efforts to prevent such a thing from happening."

"How else do we continue? There is only two entrances to the city, the south and the north. Both are heavily guarded."

"We will need a distraction."

"How will we accomplish that?" Arria asked.

"Well, if you notice they have a small stream traveling under their gates into their village on the west side. I imagine this is their water supply. If we camp out there, they will be unable to leave to get more water. One option we have is wait them out and poison their water supply. Another is for one of us to swim under the river far enough away where they won't see us, swim into their city and either create chaos, or contaminate their direct water supply and food supply. We could force their hand that way."

"Nobody could hold their breath that long."

Adnevia smiled. "Without magic ... perhaps not. However, there are a few Ikchani would could cast spells to breathe only the oxygen inside of the water as they travel. It would still be a hard task, but not impossible."

Arria raised her eyebrows. "Who do you have in mind?"

"Elainya. She is very powerful, and she is quite the seductress. I'm sure she'll be able to make it inside, and seduce her way all the way to the warrior's food and water supply. It would be best to contaminate it from the inside. That way we only damage the warriors rations, and leave the common people's supply unsoiled."

Arria frowned. "Why do we care about the common people."

Adnevia tilted her head. "Our mission has always been to dominate this land. Why would we risk harming the people to rule? We only want the warriors out of the way. If we kill them all, this city will be useless to rule over."

Arria pressed her lips together and nodded. "Okay. Let's talk to Elainya."

Elainya stood by the river a league west of Guerettos. Nyeverra and Viero came with her. The three of them remained silent as Elainya undressed, removing all of her leather armor into a pile. She turned around to look at them once she had only her small clothes. Chill bumps formed over her exposed body.
