Chapter 9 ~ Rachel's PoV

Alesha and Amanda both like my singing. I am so happy and over the moon. I don't need to sing to Alesha on my own any more like I said that I might do later on, which is quite a relief. I have never thought of the bullying that happened when I was 13 in the way that Alesha explained it in. I thought it broke me but as it says in Alesha's song 'you're hurt, you're not broken.' So I was just hurt by it a lot.
*Flashback*
It was the day of the school talent show. I was 13. I got up on to the stage to sing. The teachers ask me my name and what I was going to do. I told them that I was Rachel and that I was going to sing for them. They told me that I could start when I was ready.
I start to sing. I get to the chorus of the song. I see that the teachers judging have their hands covering their ears. Everyone in the audience are booing at me, telling me to get off the stage. I run off the stage crying and tell myself that I am never going to sing in front of an audience again.
* End of Flashback *
After that everyone called me names and made fun of me. Ever since that day I have never sung in front of an audience, the most people I have sung in front of since is now two, Amanda and Alesha. But before today, I would only ever sing in front of my mum and that was very occasionally. I would sing along with my friends if they sing but never alone in front of them.
While I was in the middle of a thought Amanda waved her hand in front of my face, which made me jump a little.
"Earth to Rachel. Earth to Rachel." She said.
"Huh? Oh sorry I was just thinking about something from a while ago. What were you saying to me?" I asked, not wanting to sound rude.
"We were just saying how we need to go to the stage for auditions in about 10 minutes. And we were going to tell you how the day is going to pan out." Amanda said laughing a bit.
"Ok. That was rude of me not to listen. Sorry. Right go ahead and tell me the events of today." I said quickly.
"Don't worry about it we all do it. Right so first me and Alesha will escort you to the audience, which your seat is in the first row, right behind us judges. Alesha?" Explains Amanda.
"Hmm, so after that. You, my friend, are going to sit and watch the auditions while we judge them. And during the breaks or intervals or whatever you call them we will catch up and you can tell us who your favourite act is each time and why. You got all that?" Alesha says, I am trying not to but I keep staring up at her eyes, they are just so sparkly and beautiful.
"Um, let's think. Yep I got all that. Sit down then tell you my favourite act. Then what after auditions finish?" I say smiling but trying not to sound too cocky.
"Well we will go to my dressing room and chill for a bit. Then we can go back to mine and you can meet Azura if you'd like that." Alesha says almost as if it is a question of 'would you like to come back to mine?'
"Ok. I would love to meet little Azura, if there is enough time." I reply, I hope there is enough time to.
"I am sure we will have enough time." Alesha flashes a huge grin at me.
"Can you two please stop rabbiting on. Alesha we have to be on stage in 5 minutes if you didn't notice. I know I might sound a bit rude, so sorry if I do. You two will have plenty of time to talk later. Let's get you to that nice spot in the audience behind us judges. If we are quick, I might just get Simon to come and say hi." Amanda says talking very fast. She is right though we will have plenty of time to talk later in any case.
"Oh quickly Rachel, I just wanted to give you a few bits for the auditions. I got you some snow bites, some minstrels and some maltesers. You mum told me that they are your favourites. I also got you some Lucozade and some Coca Cola too, so you don't get thirsty. I want you to have them all, no arguments. Now let's get going, before Amanda gets angry at me." Alesha whispers the last bit, which causes me to laugh, which I have to stifle, then hands over the bag with the gifts in.
"This is so nice of you Alesha, you really didn't have to go to all this effort just for me. Thank you though." I say while we are walking along the corridor.
"No problem, I wanted to and plus it wasn't much effort."
Amanda turned around and looked at us as if to say hurry up. Alesha grabs my hand and we walk quite a bit faster. We get to the hall which the auditions are being held. It's huge, there has got to be at least 1000 people who can fit in here, probably a lot more. We get to the chair which has been especially reserve for me with a piece of paper with my name on it.
"Have fun Rachel! See you in a bit." Amanda says and walks over to where Simon and David are sat.
"Hope you enjoy your sweets and the auditions. See you in the break." Alesha says, kisses my cheek, hugs me quickly and walks down to her fellow judges. Amanda is talking to Simon, she points over to me and Simon starts walking over to me. It's only a short distance from where I'm sat so it's not a long walk.
"Hi Rachel, I am Simon as you know. It's nice to meet you." Says Simon.
"Hi Simon, it's nice to meet you too." I say shyly.
"Well, enjoy the auditions, if I see you again, I will come talk to you later. Bye." Simon smiles at me and walks back over to the panel. Amanda and Alesha look round at me. I mouth 'thank you' to them both. They smile at me, wave a bit then turn around. Then the auditions start. I have a feeling it's going to be a long day.
