By the time I rush to the window and get my first glimpse of the long stone driveway wolves are already making their way towards the house. I involuntarily gasp and Oli scrambles to my side.

“Bloody hell.” He states and that is exactly my thoughts too. At the front of the pack is what I assume is Andy, I don’t really remember him from the night in the woods but I would have figured he’d be in the Alpha position.  Walking directly behind him is his Beta on the left and another large wolf on his right, making a small triangle, they come to a stop just looking up at the house, there pack stops about a meter behind them and their numbers outweigh our own, where we have thirty, thirty five at the most they have at least sixty.

“Where did he get so many?” I panic.

“I have no idea, open the window!” I do as he says as Drake walks down the stone steps flanked by my mother on one side, Trey on the other and my Dad not far behind. The party comes to a stop leaving a substantial no man’s land between the two sides.

“I understand you are here on the wishes of the former Dark Wolf?” Drake begins, his voice is powerful and carries easily to the other pack and also up to where we are sat, hanging out of the window. The wolf at the front steps forward and nods. “Where I respect that you feel the need to carry out a dying man’s last words” Drake continues. “I cannot allow you to pass any further.” The wolf makes a noise like a chuckle. “As you are well aware you are on my territory without permission and that is an offence worthy of execution.” His voice rises and becomes threatening. “As such I am entitled to rip you limb from limb where you stand, all of you.” He says emphasising the last bit for the wolves stood in the pack, some of whom visibly become uncomfortable lowering their heads to the floor or shifting their weight from paw to paw.

“However, I will carry on the legacy of my father, the previous Alpha Clayton, and allow you the option of turning away now.” My hopes soar at the idea that they could just turn and leave and no one would be hurt, but obviously this was my naivety coming through because they stand their ground.  Drake’s voice returns to a normal pitch like he is having an everyday conversation, “Okay then, well since you are so set on seeing this through to the end we will follow tradition and fight this out. But keep in mind that you have threatened my family… so trust me when I say I am looking forward to this.” He turns as if to walk away when he stops and looks back to them. “Oh and there is someone else that wants to say a few words first.” Me and Oli look to each other in confusion ,and the wolves in the crowd start to make noises, not understanding what Drake is talking about, that was until the sound of the big doors opening and more footsteps descending the steps and crunching on the stones can be heard.

Ty looks calm and in control as he comes to a stop in the place that Drake was stood only moments before, he rises to his full height and takes in the scene before him, if I thought that the pack of wolves looked uncomfortable in font or Drake it is nothing to how they look in front of Ty, they no longer seem as confident as they did a moment before, from our spot on the top floor we can see tails between legs, wolves cowering to the floor and can hear the whines coming from within the group. The panic that I saw at seeing so many diminishes as I realise that some did not expect to see Ty here and may not want to fight against him.

“Hey guys.” Ty starts in a surprisingly casual manner. “I know why you are here and I know who has rallied you together and I just have a couple of things to say before we start this thing. I am not so much angry that you have decided to turn your backs on me, your Alpha, and follow Andy here, but I am disappointed.” I stifle a snort as he talks to his pack as if they were children. “I don’t want to fight against any of you and that is a fact, I’ve grown up with you, you have all helped me on my hard transformation into Alpha and I have always seen you as the family that I was never allowed to have, however, despite all of that I am going to stand on this side of the battle until the end and unfortunately I will have to stop any of you that attempt to get passed me, it’s just the way that this is going to go.” He pauses and glances across his audience before continuing.
