"Mom, Tyler and I kissed."
Alaska's mom stopped chewing and looked at her young daughter in the eyes. She swallowed.
"What?" She moved the rice on her plate around with her fork.
"Yeah, I don't know. He was showing me what happened at his school."
Mrs. Norman looked at Mr. Norman with a shocked facial expression. It's like Alaska's mom was sending Alaska's dad a brain message that said,
Maybe Tyler isn't the greatest influence after all?
Alaska finished her bite of chicken and said, "But don't worry, it wasn't anything extreme."
Mrs. Norman sipped her water and answered, "Wasn't anything extreme? Alaska, sweetie, we wanted you to save kissing for after marriage. It's moral."
Alaska nodded her head. "I understand, mom. It won't happen again."That was a lie.
The next week when Alaska was in Tyler's room, something urged Alaska in a weird way.
Tyler put down his game controller and laid down on his bed.
"Hey, Ty. Got a question..." Alaska said, scooting a but farther from him in case her plan didn't go well.
Tyler raised his eyebrow and looked at her. "Yeah?" He stretched his arms over his head and closed his eyes.
"Can we... Can we kiss again?" Alaska froze in terror.
Oh my goodness. I just did that.
The room was silent for a second.
"Uh, sure. I need some practice myself." Tyler smiled and sat up.
Alaska gulped and put her hands down beside her.
"Tyler, I really like you."
Alaska mentally slapped herself again. Stop embarrassing yourself.
You could see Tyler's heart racing inside him. He was blushing too, now. Two blushing teenagers in a room, disobeying their parents rules and leaning in for a second kiss.
"Wait-" Alaska said. "How do we.. Do this?"
He looked up in the air and thought for a moment. "Aha," he said. "I'll look it up. You wait here."
Tyler left the room, and Alaska waited nervously. She wanted the second kiss to be good. She wanted it to be perfect.
She wasn't sure what a perfect kiss felt like, or how to accomplish it, but she wanted to try.
5 minutes later, Tyler re-entered the room.
"Hey, Alaska, before we do this, I just wanna let you know I'm not a player."
He sat down beside her.
"A what?" Alaska never heard that word before.
"A player. I'm not gonna leave you. We are gonna stay together and get married when we're older. You promise?" Tyler looked peaceful as he talked to Alaska. Alaska was still confused, but something about what he said felt so right.
"I promise."
Tyler leaned into Alaska's lips. The closer he got, the farther Alaska fell into an emotional pit. She was feeling excited and happy and worried and confused and content and scared but also right. She just felt right.
Her head hit the pillow beneath her as Tyler carved her lips with his- he seemed to have found a very interesting online article on how to kiss because he was going to town.
Alaska decided she would do something too so she started to grab his neck and rub it.
Tyler raised his head and laughed.
"Wh-what are you doing!" He laughed jokingly. "Whatever it is, don't stop. It feels good."
Alaska laughed but was quickly interrupted by Tyler's lips. Alaska felt tingles in her stomach as Tyler stroked her cheeks and continued to kiss her. He brushed through her hair and traced her jawline. Alaska was feeling so many feelings that she began to overflow with emotions all at once.
Tyler laid down next to her and breathed heavily.
"We're pretty good for beginners." He said.
Alaska smiled and closed her eyes. I'm pretty good for a homeschooler who hasn't had any other long time human contact than with you and my parents.
Tyler turned on his side.
"Hey, how long have you had a crush on me, Las?"
Alaska thought back to when she was little.
"I think I've always liked you, I just never knew what feelings were. I was missing out human emotions."
He smiled, and seemed content with that answer.
"I've liked you ever since I met you, I believe. I don't have a single memory where I didn't like you."
Alaska blushed.
"And I know for sure there will never be a moment where I won't like you."
And Alaska believed every word. She had discovered love and her life had changed. She had found out that disobeying her parents was do-able and not such a bad thing. Well, for her at least.
