[ based on the new map called ecopoint: antarctica that is mei's. i love her to bits and i feel bad she lost her people. sad that she was the only one alive. who could actually make it alive. let's appreciate mei for a moment.. //tears ]

Both you and Mei decided to go on a trip.

It took forever though. All the walking, all the struggling.. Honestly, you were so tired. "C'mon, it'll be worth it, (your name)! This'll be the next thing to get to know me!" She cheered.

"Ah, okay..." You pouted and ran to her.

That was until you saw some buildings that were covered in snow. It was.. snowing. "It's great to be back to the lab!" She smiled brightly as her little robot companion showed emotion of happiness too.

"Whoa.. what is this?" You were amazed, how was Mei able to find this? More so, live here?!

"It's the lab I worked in before I got called to Overwatch. I had many happy moments here." She says, grabbing your hand and smiling warmly.

"Come on, let's go and explore!" She laughs as you smile back. "Alright, alright! Hold up!" You giggled back.

Just like that, you guys walked in a building. It looked kind of messy at first, but you laughed quietly as you found a note saying Happy Birthday to Mei.

"Oh, you're looking at that?" Mei comes in, standing next to you. "Haha,  my friends did that for me." She smiles.

Little did she know, you saw the sadness in her eyes.

"It's adorable." You pat her head while reading the supplies. It looked like she stayed long enough to survive.

They didn't have enough supplies for everyone, but they managed to survive somehow.

"Hey, what's this?" You say, pointing at something else. There's drawings on the wall and a poster too. She looks at the direction you're pointing at and laughs a bit.

"Oh those?" She smiles once again.

Goddamn, did it make you feel bad.

"My friends did drawings and we told ourselves to hang in there. We all wished we could make it." You nod while observing. "I especially love the Winston drawing, it's so cute!" She laughs.

Why hide your sadness?

You thought. You knew Mei was just being happy for your and her sake. You didn't want her to hide it.

You guys did a bit more of exploring the lab and you had to admit, the trip was worth it. You love Mei a lot, so you had to accept.

Chatting with her made her a bit happy, but you knew she was still hiding it. Did something bad happen here? The lab looks a bit messy, but it still can be cleaned.

That was until you heard Mei fall to the ground, widening her eyes, taking off her glasses.

"Mei..?" You looked at her with confusion as you looked forward. "N-no.." She said, with a bit of tears coming out. There were chambers with names on them as Mei looked frightened and tears started bursting out of her eyes.

"Torres, Arrhenius.." You read the names. Were these her friends? Well, where are they now? Mei was crying now as her robot companion looked sad as well.

"W-why?! Why did they have to die?! Why was I the only one to survive?!" She sobs as you rush to her side. "It's not fair..!" She wipes her tears constantly with her hands. "Mei.." You say, hugging her.

"(your name).. It's not fair.. I want all of them back.." She hugs you back while crying into your chest. "I wish this didn't happen.. but it did.." She softly speaks.

She lost these people..

"We were all in hibernation, hoping for a rescue.. But it never came.. They checked.. I.. I was.. The only one able to.. s-survive!" She hugs you tightly and cries harder.

"Mei.. I wish I could do something to help you.." You rub her head.

"But.. don't worry.. I'm here for you and I always will be." You smile. She looks at you with her puffy eyes and red face. "R-really?" She sniffles. "Really. I promise to always be with you." You kiss her forehead.

"I don't want you to lose anyone else and I will prevent that," You wipe her tears. "So calm down. For me?" You smile brightly. She smiles a bit. "I.. Thank you so much.. (your name).."

"No problem.." You hug her shortly and stand up. "Well then.. Don't cry anymore." You kiss her cheek, helping her stand.

"Don't worry. I'll always be here." She wonders. "Why?" She asks, holding your hand.

"Mei, I love you a lot. I don't regret doing so." You smile, tightly holding her hand. "You're so caring, (your name).. I love you too." You blush as she smiles warmly.

"Haha, I knew that. Well, should we head back?" You link arms with her as she nods.

"Definitely, I don't want to cry anymore." She laughs. You guys head back, struggling.it was definitely worth the trip. And you don't regret every single bit of it.

Lore for reference: Mei-Ling Zhou was a member of this multi-year initiative. A peerless climatologist, she had introduced cutting-edge innovations in the field of climate manipulation that protected at-risk areas in Asia and beyond. She was assigned to the program's monitoring station at Watchpoint: Antarctica when disaster struck: a sudden, catastrophic polar storm battered the installation and cut it off from the outside world, leaving the facility damaged and the scientists stranded. As their supplies dwindled, they entered cryostasis in a last-ditch effort to survive until a rescue attempt could be made.

But that rescue never came. It was years later when the team's cryogenics chamber was finally discovered. Mei, still in hibernation, was the only survivor.
