I felt the tears before I knew I was crying. Spastic tightness gripped at my chest. I was weeping, very silently. I heard the grass next to me shiver. I'm sure Kyle was looking at me worried. If he whispered to me, I didn't hear him. I was too scared. Voices started screaming in my head, drowning out everything else. "No! Please! Mommy! You can't take her from me!"
"Mommy? Wake up! Please? What is this red stuff?! Why are you so cold? Just wake up! You said we would have a better life here!"
"Like hell I would ever love you! Get off me!!"
I close my eyes and cover my face with my hands. I quietly bury myself deeper into the grass. Honestly, I would rather be a servant than be reminded of these awful things. Not the one being forced to marry the captain of the enemy, but the one who was so preoccupied with her work she didn't think of the awful things that happened. "It's over." I whisper as quietly as I can. Kyle looks at me. I can't see him looking at me, but I can feel his eyes on me, feel the confusion in his hazel eyes. "I'm sorry mommy." I mutter. I sink into sleep.------------
When I woke up, I don't know how long I was out, we are in the grass still. All around me, the grass is flattened. I sit up, peeling the grass off my face from the crying, and look around. "Hey." Kyle's voice comes from behind me. I turn around slowly, sorrow behind my gaze. First of all, he heard me muttering, and second of all, he probably evaded the enemy or fought them. "How are you feeling?" "I'm good now." I reply. "Good!" He grins before his face turns serious. "You were out like a light for about 2 days with a fever." "What?!" My eyes widen. 2 days? 2 whole days?! "You woke up every once in a while and I would give you water or food, but other than that you've been out." "Oh." I look down at myself. I still have my servants uniform on, which is basically a glorified rag that serves as a covering. My dirty blonde hair is grass filled and dirty. My skin is filthy and darkened. I have bruises on my body from the ropes and the pole jabbing me in the back. "Hey, Kyle?" He looks at me. "Where is the river? That you got the water from?" He looked away, a thoughtful look in his eyes. "That way." He points West. "Why?" He asks. "I kinda need a bath...I was thinking of just rinsing off before I set off." His face darts to look at me in the eye. "What?" He looks down at his hands. "W-well...I thought you might want to team up..." I looked at him. He wanted me on his team?! In the war age, people, when you actually found them, would form teams to survive. The bigger teams, or enemy's, as they are referred to,(Unless they have a specific name. The one I was a prisoner in didn't.) The Kaiser, Ehlem, made this stupid "game". He is a sick person. A psycho. The winners, the ones who reach a certain goal, will become his successors. The goal is to find the first Kaiser's crown. Kaiser Barein, the kindest person, or Kaiser, ever! That was back on Earth, towards the end. Before the Nuclear War. 67% of the population moved to Eclipse then. A planet 3 times as big as Earth. My mother and I didn't know about this game when we came here. Kyle raised his gaze to look at me. I smiled as a single tear fell from my eye. "I would love to join you. But you don't want a weakling on your team. Your strong. You fought the enemy. Thanks, by the way for that...Also-" He holds up his hand to shush me. "I don't know how strong you think I am, but I didn't fight anybody." "Huh?" He didn't? Then why didn't they take us? Did he carry me again? He started laughing. I looked at him. I was so confused. "Thanks for thinking that I could though!" He said through laughter. "But they went a different way then it looked like they would." I sighed. Then a smile, so wide it probably touched my ears, spread across my face before I bust out laughing. We laughed for so long, we started crying. We weren't really laughing at anything in particular, but it felt good to laugh after everything I went through. I stopped laughing and took in gulps of air. I wiped the tears from my eyes. "I'll be back! I'm gonna go to the river now." He smiled. "Ok." I got up and started walking in that direction. After about 5 minutes, I heard water. I sprinted towards it, right to the river. I took of the rags I was weating and hopped in. The water was pretty cold, but I didn't mind. It just felt good to be clean again. When I was finished, I got out and sat on a rock right by the river. I took the rags and washed them. I put them on as soon as they began to dry. I finger-combed my hair and started to head back. I decided to sprint some of the way to get there faster. I began to sprint. After a little while I realized I wasn't alone. There was a rustling in the grass next to me. Not a human, the grass was too short. But it very likely could be a scarat. These are kinda like big versions of rats on Earth. But here, one scrape from there claws or teeth, means instant death. I didn't even bother slowing down. I ran faster than I ever had before. Suddenly a scarat so big it could have been a dog, jumped out at me missing my leg by a few inches. I ran faster. I was going so fast I couldn't depict a rock from a blade of grass. Suddenly everything played in slow motion, and for some reason, I could see everything that was about to happen. The scarat was going to make an attack from the right, going for me arm. A tree was right upahead and I was going to run into it if I didn't turn. The area where Kyle and I had made a camp was a few meters to the left of me. Kyle was facing me with a look of desperation. He thought that I was going to get bitten. I narrowed my eyes. No, I was going to live. My mom made a sacrifice to keep me alive, and Kyle had saved my live once in the past 3 days. In a couple seconds, in slow motion almost, I ducked under the scarat into a somersault. In an instant everything was back to normal speed. I recovered quickly and ran towards Kyle. I stopped at camp and flopped down, heaving. I was so tired. Kyle was just looking down at me with wide eyes and a gaping expression. I couldn't answer him right now, I was breathing too hard. I heard the scarat shuffle away. I breathed deeply. I sat up and turblned to tell Kyle what happened. He was still gaping. "The hell was that?!" He half shouted. I almost giggled, but then I remembered, I didn't know either. "I don't know." "What?!" He exclaimed. "After I took a bath, I started running to get back here. I heard some rustling beside me so I ran faster. The scarat jumped out at my leg and missed, just barley, and I just booked it back here. Then," I paused. I didn't know how to explain this. "Everything sort of went into slow motion." "Huh?" I could tell I was losing him. "Well, I kinda knew what was going to happen before it happened and I dogded the scarat." He just stared at me. A thought popped into my head. What if he doesn't believe me?! What will I do then! He won't want a crazy person on his team!
