It has been about two weeks since the party at Harry's house and life hasn't been so lonely anymore. Edward has snuck through my window almost every day and we usually just talk for hours. No one knew about his visits, and I wanted it to stay like that. He was a great friend and basically the only person I had talked to since the accident. He helped keep my mind off of the haunting memories.
'I'll come over at 8. - Ed' read my phone screen.
'ok, see you soon.' I replied. I then proceeded to think about everything we had talked about together. There had been a lot of conversations shared between us, too many to count. There was always something to talk about or do with Ed. He had made my living hell of a life not seem excruciating. But I still had barely left my over-sized room in the mansion they call 'home'. It had a massive bathroom and flat screen TV mounted on the wall. I only ever left to get things that I can't get in my room, such as food and water. Which reminded me, it was time for my daily trip down stairs. I had always tried to go downstairs when no one was there, but I couldn't be bothered to get up in the middle of the night and sneak down.
I was walking down the stairs flipping trough Tumblr when I heard Harry say, "Hey, Liam, I'm going to finally tell my family the good news! I'll be back soon." I heard the front door open and close immediately following Harry's voice. I stomped down the remaining stairs, not caring if anyone heard me. I arrived in the kitchen and searched the cupboards for any snack foods I could bring up to my room. I didn't like to eat unhealthy all the time, so I would always grab some fruits or vegetables too. As I was raiding the fridge for some carrots, I heard a fimilar clear of the throat.
"What do you want Liam?" I asked without turning around.
"You stay in your room all day and only come down here for food. Don't you think that's sort of unhealthy?" he asked. I think he was expecting an answer, but he wasn't going to get one. "Fine, if you don't want to talk to me, maybe you'll have more fun talking to a therapist." Liam knew he would get a reply out of me after that comment.
"I'm not going to talk to anyone, just leave me alone and get back to the billions of people who are obsessed with you. I'm sure they'll want to know why you guys haven't been out in public a lot lately. Or did your management already tell them about little orphan Liam?" I taunted him. I knew he wouldn't respond so I gathered my supplies and started to leave the kitchen.
"You could've easily ended up in an orphanage." Liam called out to me as I was leaving. I ran up the stairs and slammed my door shut. I knew I wouldn't cry about his comment like a baby. Instead, anger boiled inside of me. I didn't know who it was towards or where it had come from, but I knew that if I didn't contol it soon I would most likely tear someone apart. So, I did the only thing that would always calm me down. I ran into my bathroom and everything after that was blurry and uncertain.
I was lying in my bed listening to some music when I checked the time for the millionth time today. It was almost ten and Edward was supposed to have been here two hours ago. I didn't know why I cared so much that he blew me off, but that didn't stop me from thinking about it for the past hour. I turned on my TV and surfed the channels for a few minutes. Nothing good was on so I decided to look through Netflix also. Before I could log in, Edward's name popped up on my caller ID of my phone.
"Hey, Ed?" I answered the phone quite puzzled.
"Heeyyyy, Soph." he replied, obviously drunk.
"Are you drunk?" I asked sitting up in my bed.
"Maaaayyybe, maybe not, but hey did you know that I can't stop thinking about you. It's always you, nothing else." He said with a hint of despair. I knew he didn't mean any of that, for he was probably drunk out of his mind.
"Ok, why did you call me Edward?"
"Oh, right. Well, Harry took our whole family out to dinner to celebrate the great news." he said sarcastically.
"What great news? Are you there with them right now?" I can't help but get worried about Edward. I hate that I'm becoming attached to him.
"Me?! Hanging out with that bastard!? Oh, and the news, Harry said that he's building us a bigger house." There was a great amount of hostility in his words. "Right on top of this one." I heard a loud crash through the phone that startled me. I sat on the edge of the bed; my palms getting sweaty.
"W-what just happened?" There was no hiding the worry in my voice. I just hoped he was too drunk to hear it.
"They start tearing it down on Thursday. Some random-ass construction workers are going to destroy my home, piece by piece, Sophie!" he cried out in anger. I heard another crash and another.
"I'm coming over! I'll be there in ten minutes, don't hurt yourself!" I scrambled to get my shoes on as I opened my window. If I ran to his house it would only take me about seven minutes to get there.
I half ran, half jogged to Edward's house. I'm was so close to getting my license, but yet Ed had to have a crisis right before I could get it. Finally, his house came into view and the only light that was on, was the one in his room. I sprinted to the door and knocked until my knuckles hurt. When he didn't answer, I jiggled the handle on the door to find it unlocked. I walked up the stairs and into his room where I saw Ed punching the wall several times. His hand finally made it's way through the plaster after the third try.
"Edward! Stop it!" I grabbed his arm, but he shook me off.
"Let go, you shouldn't be here Sophie!" The power of his voice surprised me, yet it was not enough to make me fear him. He walked over to his window and punched a whole through one of the sections. When he pulled his hand out of the shattered window I could see all the cuts and bruises on it.
"Edward, listen to me, you need to calm down." I said as I firmly gripped the wrist of his injured hand. "Let me help you."
"No! They can't take away my house! I-it's the one thing I have left. All the memories, they can't just tear it all down because my dick of a brother said so! They just can't." Ed shouted out as he dropped to his knees. This place was a part of him and Harry was just going to tear it down right in front of him. I felt sorry for him, but I didn't know what to do. "I grew up here, Sophie. I-I was raised in this house. And now it's all going to be gone."
"Ed, everything's going to be ok." I whispered to him. I sat down beside him and wrapped my arms around his shoulders. He leaned his head into my chest as he started to cry. "It's just a house. Nothing more. They can't take away your memories. It's just a house, they can't take away your childhood." I assured as I stroked his soft hair. The more we sat there, the more he calmed down. His hand was latched onto one of mine, even after he sat up.
"Why is the world such a lonely place?" He asked looking down at our intertwined hands.
"I don't know, but if you have someone to share it with, it becomes a little less lonely."
