In the middle of the bed, Colby sat. He was curled up and reaching his hands to his back, scratching it. Sam's jaw dropped lower as he saw blood trickle down from the scratches Colby carved. Tears rolled down Colby's cheek as he sniffed and mumbled, "Sammy...sam...my." Sam instantly ran over to him. "Colby! What are- stop that!" Sam yelled, his voice quivering. Colby continued, digging his nails deeper and deeper, piercing his skin. Spots of blood were scattered among the wrinkled bed sheets. What the hell, Sam thought to himself. "Colby, stop!" Sam yelled louder, which caused his voice to crack. He gripped Colby's left arm and tugged hard. It didn't budge. He pulled at it harder as Colby kept mumbling Sam's name. His body suddenly went into shock and everything stopped. Colby let out a deep breath and Sam was left panting. "Colby what the hell was that!" He shouted. "I don't know... Sam, something is happening to me. I can feel it in my chest. It's burning. Oh my god, why is it burning so much. I feel like my insides are being ripped apart! Sam, help me! Please Sammy, you have to help me, you can't leave me here alone, Sammy!" Colby yelled frantically. "Hey, hey, I will never leave you, especially if you're like this. Just try to calm down, okay? I'm going to get you help, okay? I won't let you be like this, Colby. Never in my life would I leave you. You know you're all I have..." Sam assured him. Colby nodded and calmed down. Sam let out a tired sigh and hung his head down. "Come on, let's go. We need to get you to see a priest" Sam said. "But, it's 3:00 in the morning. Will they let us go?" He asked, his eyes fearful. "I'm sure someone will be there. And, i'm sure someone will let us in. They have to" Sam said. He nodded and stood up with Sam, getting dressed and making their way to the nearest church. When they arrived, they could faintly hear the sound of the organ playing. Colby looked at the church hesitantly, feeling a slight burning in his chest once more. "S-sam.. I don't think this is a good idea.." Colby said in a shaky voice. "Why? What's wrong?" Sam asked, his eyes filled with concern. "The burning in my chest.. It gets worse when I take a step closer to the church..." He said shakily. Sam wasn't going to let his friend suffer with this... This demon inside of him. He grabbed his wrist and pulled him inside, ignoring his protests against him. He opened the heavy, large church doors and dragged a struggling Colby inside. The man playing the organ looked up at the two boys, causing a domino effect to happen with the Priest and the two nuns putting bibles away. "I'm afraid we cannot help you at this time. Please, come back tomorrow" The elder man said. "Please, Father. My friend needs your help. I walked in on him scratching his back... There was blood everywhere. Something isn't right. I know you can feel it. I know you can feel the dark presence that suddenly changed the mood as soon as we stepped foot in here. Please help us. Help him..." Sam pleaded. The priest looked at Colby with fearful eyes; the nuns not being any different. They came closer to the priest, each step becoming for difficult because of Colby violently shaking and pulling at Sam's arm. "Sam... Sam stop!"

His voice shook the building, making the nuns scream and fall to the floor. Sam let go of his grip on Colby and saw his eyes turn to the back of his head. His eyes seemed to be bleeding and deep, dark veins formed on his neck, going up his face, to his forehead. Statues broke and bled, the unholy presence causing hysteria. Windows broke and the wind blew harshly. Sam crouched down and covered his head, not wanting to cause any serious injuries on himself. He would be lying if he said he wasn't frightened right now. He would be lying if he said he didn't have any thought of pulling Colby down with him, because he did. But, his fear held him back. He didn't know what would happen if he had protected Colby, or his body at least. He thought maybe if he did, Colby would be thankful. However, the demon that's in him, would not. In fact, he suspected the demon would probably kill him on the stop. Demons don't want saving, they want demolishment. They want torture and pain. Sam wasn't going to save a demon just so he could ruin their lives even more. Sam was going to save his best friend so he won't have to suffer. Sam was doing this for him. Any other circumstance, he probably wouldn't even be in this church right now. He probably wouldn't be in this situation where statues bled and nuns cry. All of this was terrifying him, but he knew it didn't terrify him as much as it did to Colby. He was the one possessed, after all. Just like what happened back in the apartment, everything stopped. Everything repeated, except they were in a different location. Colby took over his body again, but the look in his eye was something Sam never wanted to see. Fear, sorrow, and confusion... All bunched together. He quickly got up and covered his eyes, feeling like he was protecting the innocence of a younger brother. "Don't look, Colby..." He whispered. Colby didn't respond. He couldn't respond. He was too much in shock, and he felt lost. His mouth hung open, the image of the church burned in his mind. "It's okay, Colby... It's not your fault. We can go home, okay?" Sam said, trying to stop the tears from falling. Colby slowly took Sam's arms away from him, looking closely at the damage he did. He started shaking his head, and fell to his knees. "I-Why? Why does this have to happen to me? Why did I have to do this? Look at this, Sam! You can't possibly want to take me back home. Not with this- not with this monster inside of me!" He couldn't stop the tears from spilling. Sam reached out to put a hand on his shoulder, but Colby didn't accept it. He grabbed a glass shard from the ground and studied it. "Colby... what are you doing?" Sam asked. "Leave, Sam. Please, just leave" Colby whispered. Colby stared  into the glass, seeing the evil glint in his eye.  He brought the shard down, plunging it deep into his stomach. "Colby, stop! What the hell, Colby!" He didn't stop, though. In fact, he kept going, harder and deeper, twisting it and pushing it in. He began coughing up blood, and moved onto his leg, then his arm, then his chest. "Colby, stop! Put it down, now!" Sam cried out. He tried grabbing the shard, but it only cut his hand and made the situation worse. Sam's vision was blurred from his tears, only seeing red. His hot tears couldn't stop, and his breath was ridged. The rest of the night was a blur, just a missing time in history. Somewhere in Sam's mind, he had hope this was a dream, only a nightmare. But, little did he know, this was reality. This was just the awakening of something terrifying. This was the awakening of their nightmares. This was the awakening of the creature inside of his best friend, Colby. And, this was only the beginning...
