A strand of my golden hair fell against my cheek as I pulled the tangled mess up, securing it there with an old hair tie as we ventured down the abandoned road. The sun's heat radiated off my tanned skin, sweat dripping from my brow as a result, my legs growing tired with every step. "Well ain't this nice?" Abraham's voice filled my ears, and I looked up to see what he was going on about to find that, placed ever so carefully in the middle of the road, were containers filled with water. I furrowed my brow with curiosity as Glenn handed Rick a hand scribbled note that had been attached to one of the jugs. "From a friend," he read out loud for the rest of us before looking down at the gift in question. "Do you think it's safe?" I asked softly, and Rick merely shrugged as he looked around. Whoever placed these here had to know we'd been without water the passed few days, as the containers didn't look like they'd been here for long.
Eugene stepped forward, bending down to grab one of the smaller bottles before standing back up. "Only one way to find out." he stated as he unscrewed the lid, and as he brought it to his lips Abraham pushed passed me to knock it out of his hands, the contents splashing over the dry pavement. "Not worth the risk." he commented gruffly when Eugene gave him a questioning look, and my attention switched to Rick. "What do we do now?" Glenn asked as Rick ran a hand through his greasy hair. "Somebody's been watching us. Like Abraham said it ain't worth the risk." I looked to Abraham, who's eyes met mine, and he gave me a cocky smile. I scoffed inwardly, averting my gaze to something much more appealing as Rick discussed the issue with Glenn. Storm clouds were approaching from ahead, so we'd eventually have some water, if not a lot.
"Let's keep moving," Rick called back to us, and I cleared my throat as I forced my legs to move once again. My legs were killing me, and to make it worse, an unwanted companion appeared to my right. "Need me to carry you, or are you the type of woman who likes to do things on her own?" I glared up at him, only for him to chuckle in amusement as we walked at a steady pace. "You know, sweetheart, I just can't seem to remember your name." he continued, and it took everything in me not to knock him on his ass as I calmly replied. "Maybe if you'd stop using ridiculous pet names you'd be able to remember?" Abraham laughed at my response, shaking his head as he scratched his chin. "Hell, ain't you a feisty one. I would've never thought you were...given your height. But in all seriousness, name?"
Deciding to ignore his blatant insult, I took a deep breath. "Junabee...Junabee Jones." I said quickly, and he qave me a quizzical look. "Why does that sound familiar?" I looked ahead towards the rest of the group, wanting desperately for this conversation to be over. "It's from a child's book, Junie B. Jones. My parents had a twisted sense of humor." I explained with slight frustration. He grinned. "Yep, that suits you alright." he commented with a short chuckle, and I gritted my teeth in aggravation before quickening my pace, wanting to be as far from him as possible.
