-Lavanya's P.O.V-

I sit on my bed and stare hard at this one plant in front of me. It might seem like a very dumb thing to do, but it would make sense if people actually knew all the weird shit that tends to happen around me.

"Grow, grow, grow, grow..." I whisper over and over. I shriek as the plant suddenly explodes. Hiding under my bed now, I glare at the dirt that is now strewn all over my room. Well... That didn't exactly go as planned. How it happened, I have no idea. Like I said, weird shit tends to happen around me.

No, I'm not some crazy 16-year-old, talking to plants. It's just these weird things. I have no actual way to explain how or why it all happens but I swear it does. If people actually knew... I'd probably get locked up, which I really don't want to.

Call me crazy, but whenever I cry (which isn't that often), it rains and when I'm angry, random lightning bolts come from the sky. The skies can be completely blue and sunny, but when I'm really pissed off, lightings strike out of literal nowhere. It's inexplainable.

And yeah, totally freaks me out.

This is why I stay indoor most of the time, trying to keep my calm. Or sometimes, like today, I try to figure out what the hell this shit is?

"Lavanya!" I roll my eyes and yelp when my lights flicker. That's how easily it's done! Just when I'm irritated! One day, I swear this house will somehow burn down because I'm mad about having cramps or something.

"Coooming!" I shout back, dragging out my 'o'. I do a once over of myself in the mirror. Black sweats, 3/4 sleeved black and white striped top, my hair split in two braids over my shoulders and a black beanie hat on my head.

I shrug and quickly put on slight mascara, then run down on my bare feet. Yeah, it's September and I live in New York, but I'm indoor and it's freakishly warm here.

"LAVANYA!" Carol shouts insanely loud. She literally has no patience.

"YES!" I shout back, coming around the corner. I watch as she jumps and holds a hand over her heart. I smirk at her flustered expression, making her sigh.

"You have to be careful with my old heart," she scolds halfheartedly. Even when she scolds me, I know she loves me more than words. She's been taking care of me for so long, it's no wonder really.

"Sorry, Carol. Are you going to ask me to do the dishes again? Because I didn't do anything this time," I tell her, adding the last part just to be sure. She chuckles and points over to the living room. I crane my neck to look into the living room and there stands a middle-aged man. My eyes widen and I look to Carol again. "Who's that?"

"That's Marcus Brown," she says, placing a hand on the small of my back and leading me into the living room. He has chocolate brown eyes and close to black hair. He even has facial hair. By the looks of it, he has to be around 35 maybe and he's kinda hot... In like and older man type of way.

"Hello, Lavanya. I'm Marcus, how old are you?" he asks me, holding out his hand. I don't look him in the eyes, but when Carol gives my side a squeeze, I look up. Marcus' eyes widen in surprise, but he doesn't seem freaked out like everyone else does.

"I'm 16, sir," I answer, shaking his hand politely.

"You have very special eyes. You're not wearing contacts, right?" he asks, looking from my left eye, which is naturally brown, to my right one, which happens to be a crystal clear blue.

"Nope, I've always had weird eyes, they're really freaky," I shrug. Marcus nods slowly, then hands over a file with the corners of papers sticking out.
