"What are you looking at me for?" Asher cocked his head. I stammered. I hadn't meant to be caught looking over him, I was just checking his vitals, doing the least I could do for the guy who did the same for me.
"I'm...um...checking your-your vitals. Yeah, I'm checking your vitals." He raised an eyebrow at me.
"Checking my vitals? If that was all you were doing then why did I feel your pain? That was pain, right? It felt like it would be pain." I raised an eyebrow back at him.
"You're ranting." I responded. I wanted to avoid anything that small flash of pain could've meant. I was already lost and confused. No need to shatter my world I had just pieced back together.
"And you're avoiding my question." He shot back. I mentally cursed. Asher burst out laughing. "And here I was thinking you were so high, mighty and proper! Tell me, Etoile, what other curses do you have under your belt?" Every laugh made my face turn more and more red. I sneered. "Oh don't do that." He simpered, then laughed again. "It ruins that pretty little face of yours." If my face was pink before, it was now lobster red. I wasn't sure if it was from embarrassment or something else.
Stop that, Alaani. No more of those thoughts. I took a deep breath and turned the conversation in a completely different direction.
"So, how are you doing with being a star?" Asher's face instantly fell, all humor gone. His eyes went from bright to endlessly tormented pits. I swore I could've seen frost creeping over them.
"Well, how do you think? Everything I know has just collapsed around me more and more. It starts with finding out there's a race of stars, high beings I wasn't told I existed. My faith in the clan started shaking but still held. Then a girl who I had barely met but somehow stole my heart in the few days I was watching her possibly dead body, which I might add was my fault, came into my life in a fiery inferno. I was going mad because of it. Just when I thought I could come to terms with everything, I find out that everything I have been told is a lie, and I am that exact high being I hadn't been told about. So yeah, I'm just peachy." I froze, I couldn't move.
He sat on the edge of his bed, his head in his hands. I could sense the storm in him from across the room. I was completely shocked, didn't know what to do, but something forced me to sit down my him and put my hand on his shoulder. That something took over my body and I just watched, I couldn't think.
"Asher, it'll all be okay. I know where you are. My world shattered too, when I had your blood and transformed. It'll all work out though, look at where I am now." My mouth was moving without me even being aware of it.
He looked up at me and said, with a shattered voice, "Well you're freaking Alaani Etoile. Everything you do either is or turns out to be perfect. I'm not."
I went to open my mouth to speak then paused. "Wait, did you just call me perfect?"
He turned fully to face me. "I don't know, did you just actually call me by my name?"
I didn't know what I was doing, I don't think he did either because every thought, every sense, went right out of my head as I leaned into him and he did the same. Our lips connected and I felt that spark again, just more intense. It felt, right.
Taklit's face flashed across my eyelids and I was instantly on the other side of the room panting.
"I-i don't know why I did that. I'm sorry." I said in a rush then left the room.
Right before I was out of earshot I heard him say, "I am too."
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh I have been waiting to do that for so long! Love y'all!
