"Hello, how may I help you?"
The same question. Every day. Alice loved working in a bookshop, but today wasn't her best day. It was Christmas Eve and she had to work, sucks, right?
After handing the lady a copy of "The Fifty shades of Grey" (which she always found uncomfortable and disturbing) she headed over to the teenagers section, where the wifi was stronger.
As always, Alice opened her twitter app and refreshed the timeline.
"Working on Christmas Eve SUCKS! Hope you're all having a great time <3"Scrolling through dozens of tweets, the girl sighed. She clicked on her friends profile and typed out a tweet:
"Alina, where are you, I miss you and I'm bored. HELP COME BACK"Alice sighed again and decided to put the pile of random books back in their places. As she started working, Alice heard a voice behind her:
"Excuse me? Could you help me please?"
"Yeah, sure, how may I help you?" she answered, not turning around.
"I was looking for a book called FREAKING TURN AROUND BECAUSE THERE'S AN AMAZING RUSSIAN PERSON WILLING TO HUG YOU AND SQUEEZE YOU TO DEATH"
Alice gasped and immedeately spinned around. For a few seconds, the girls just stared at each other, frozen. Then time sped up and Alice tackled her friend into a humongous bear hug.
"Alina I CAN'T FRICKING BELIEVE WHAT."
"Surprise! I am your Christmas present!"
"Why didn't you tell me? I'd be more persistent to get off work and we'd celebrate Christmas at my house!"
"Hey, I've already talked to your mum and your boss. You're leaving work early and your mum invited me to Christmas dinner with all of you guys!!"
"Aaaaw gee man, I still can't grasp the fact that you're real. By the way, when exactly do I get off work?"
"In about...two hours." Alina answered, after checking the time on her phone.
"Mmm, I still have a lot of books to sort out, I don't know..."
"Can I browse for a bit and then help you? I've always dreamed to work in a bookshop!"
"Of course! By the way, I've guy muffins if you want them, took in a big batch today."
"ENGLISH BOOKS AND MUFFINS?ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Best. Christmas. Ever."
Alice laughed and, after giving directions to the staff room where the food was, returned to her beloved books. Alina spent the next hour in heaven, and ended up buying 6 new books. Well, nothing new there. The next hour the girls spent together, finishing up some work, chatting about random stuff such as youtubers and oh my god isn't John Green one of the best authors.
As soon as Alice got off work and changed into her own clothes, they rushed to the train station so as not to miss the train. /thankfully, they got there in time and the rest of the journey consisted of sharing music, discussing things and just having a great time. They got to Alice's home and were greeted by her family. Even her dad had come home from India specially for Christmas as a surprise!
After having a lovely Christmas dinner, prepared by Alice's mum, the girls went to the bedroom to set up for the night. Of course, neither planned on going to sleep soon, but it would be nice to get everything ready.
As soon as Alina's sleeping space was done up on the floor and the girl changed into their pyjamas, the decided to watch a Christmas film before bed.
Now, this didn't go by without a little argument, but in the end they settled on "Elf", as it was Alice's favourite Christmas film and though she had seen it many times, she wouldn't mind seeing it again (and again and again for that matter)
So they silently made their way to the kitchen, because everybody else had already gone to bed, and fixed themselfes some snacks. Hot chocolate, sweet popcorn, Cadbury milk chocolate bars and pop tarts sounded just about right.
The rest of the night flew by, and before the girls knew it, it was already 2 in the morning, they had finished the food and the film, and both were quiet tired. Even though they didn't want to waste their precious time together on sleep, Alina was exhausted from the earlier flight and Alice's work hd tired her out.
They decided to sleep in the next day and open their presents together, so they switched off the lights and settled down.
"Merry Christmas, Alice."
"Aaaw, Merry Christmas to you too."
