Chapter 59:

“Niall?” I ask weekly as I look into his bright worried eyes.

“You okay, babe?” he asks. “Were ye having another nightmare?”

“You could say that…” I mutter.

“I guess so! Ye slept awfully late, it’s almost 1,” Niall says. I sit up in bed and he rests his hand on my shoulder. I’m back in Niall’s room. Back where I fell asleep those nights ago, after we went to the club. I shake my head in confusion. My head pounds.

“Uhh, what did we do last night?? I ask him.

Niall chuckles softly. “You don’t remember? We went out to that club last night. Apparently, me, Louis, and Harry had a bit of a drunken performance of ‘The Middle’ by Jimmy Eat World.”

“Oh I remember,” I say cautiously. It’s like the last few days didn’t even happen. I woke up in Niall’s bed, just as I should have 2 nights ago. I sigh in relief before I notice myself nervously twisting Harry’s moons and stars ring around my finger.

“You sure you’re okay, Del?” Niall asks me nervously as we walk down the stairs. He rests his hand on my back, rubbing his hand in small circles. As we reach the living room, everything is back to normal. Louis sits on the couch with one knee propped up, holding a cup of tea. He wears a maroon shirt and a pair of grey baggy sweatpants. His hair is pushed back into a beanie although he looks perfect. Zayn and Liam are at the kitchen table, Zayn eating a plate of food, and Liam violently surfing the internet on his MacBook. I laugh at the sight of Liam scrolling down webpages, completely stressed out. It’s nice to be home.

Harry is in the kitchen, peeling a banana backwards. Niall rubs my back one more time before going to sit next to Louis. He is cackling at something Louis said within seconds. I walk into the kitchen and lean against the counter beside Harry.

“You alright, love?” he asks me in a raspy tone. He must have just woken up, too. Memories from the past couple of ‘days’ flood to my head. I would call it a dream, but his ring is still on my finger. He notices me twisting the ring nervously and his eyes light up.

“Yeah, weird night,” I respond dully.

“I know the feeling,” he answers sadly. For all he knows, he gave me the ring while he was drunk at the club. I know better though. “Damn,” he rubs his forehead and scrunches his eyes shut. “Why did we have to get piss drunk before our flight?”

“Not such a good plan, Styles,” I smile. He shifts his body to lean next to mine and intertwines his fingers. I glance at his hands and notice something I hadn’t seen before. A small tattoo of a ‘D’ is on the inside of his wrist. It’s barely visible, but I can see it in plain view now. Too bad I hadn’t asked him about that one at the café.

He catches me staring and shifts uneasily. He stands up and puts his hand in the pocket of his sweatpants. He wears a black pair of sweatpants and a soft grey sweater. He smiles at me. I smile back and catch Niall looking at us from the couch. He’s turned around in his seat to watch Harry and me in the kitchen. I peel my eyes away from his glare.

Niall walks into the kitchen and places his hand on my back protectively.

“Our flight leaves at 3, lads,” Liam says staring at his computer screen.

“Please don’t tell me you have been angrily searching the web just to learn that,” Louis groans. “Management told us hours ago.”

“And Paul will be here in 10,” Liam continues.
