First and Last Encounters

The clicker was getting closer to you both by the second. In training, they taught you all to be completely still and not make any sudden movements or noises. When they told you this, it seemed so simple, but now that you had to, it was proving to be quite difficult. Nate slowly turned his head to you and you slowly looked over at him. You could tell that both of you were thinking the same exact thing: if it bumps into either of you, you both are dead. Then, you notice something shiny beside him. You look down and notice there is a piece of broken glass, just big enough to hopefully make some noise if he were to throw it.

As quietly as you can, you grab his attention and make him look at the glass. Nate glances down at the glass and back up at the clicker. If the clicker takes three more steps, you both would be done for. His hand trembles as he reaches out and picks up the glass. It makes a soft noise as it scraps against the ground, causing the clicker to stop and look around, listening. Your eyes are locked onto the clicker, taking note of the blood splatters on its face and the blood dripping from its teeth. Your breathing becomes hitched in your throat.

In one swift motion, Nate tosses the glass shard. It flies over the clicker's head and over near an empty store. The glass shatters as it hits the ground and the clicker shrieks, stumbling over towards it. Unfortunately, the sound caught the attention of something else as well. Three more loud shrieks and screams come from the store that the glass had just landed in front of. Not a moment later, three freshly turned infected people run out and immediately start looking around.

Your heart is practically pounding out of your chest and it is as if everything starts to go in slow motion. The infected hadn't noticed you just yet, which gave Nate just enough time to spot a store directly across from you both; the chain door wasn't completely closed, leaving just enough space to slide under. The moment the infected spot you, Nate grabs his pipe in one hand and your hand with the other. He yanks you up off the ground and pulls you alongside him.

The clicker and the infected notice you and all let out shrieks and screams. The infected are the first to run towards you, with the clicker staggering close behind. You took a quick glance over your shoulder as you hear the infected growing closer. Had you not taken that glance over your shoulder, you wouldn't have noticed the infected man right behind you, his bloody hands just centimeters from your shoulder. With a swift movement, you take your dagger and jab it through the eye. It seemed like a blessing at first, since it had brought the man to a stop, but then you realized that the dagger was now stuck in his eye.

The two-other infected and the clicker were just a few feet away, so you knew you had to act fast. You rip yourself out of Nate's grasp and place your free hand over top of the one on the dagger's handle. Lifting one leg, you press into the infected man's chest and pull the dagger out, stumbling back onto the ground. Nate slides across the tile floor and runs back to your aid, slinging the pipe at an infected woman as she lunged at you. The woman grunts as the pipe hits her face and staggers to the side, falling to the ground. Nate grabs your hand and yanks you up again, pulling you to the chain door that was just a few feet away.

"Quick! Slide under!" Nate exclaims, standing behind you with the pipe ready.

You hesitate for a moment, but realizing that there is no time to argue, you slide under the chain. Once inside, you stand up and turn around. Nate had his arms up by his face with the pipe being the only thing between him and another infected man. You notice the infected woman getting up off the ground and the clicker staggering closer and closer to him.
