Mae wasn't used to watching her surroundings.
She wasn't use to talking to strangers every night, either, but you get what you get.
Mae had been peering over her shoulder all day, hoping to catch someone's eye. Not that she knew who, but someones.
Stranger's.
One month. They'd been talking for an entire month, and she was just now getting somewhere in finding out who he was.
She walked into her class, adamantly chatting with Lucy, when her eyes zeroed in on a slip of paper folded on her desk.
Cutting Lucy off, she quickly walked over and picked it up.
The first hint was supposed to come today.
Unfolding it, she held it out so Lucy could see it too.
BRUNETTE.
One simple word, scribbled in chicken scratch on the center of the page.
Mae and Lucy both smiled at each other before looking around the room. There were over forty kids, and it looked like half of the boys were brunette.
Lucy and Mae spent the hour hastily jotting down the names of their classmates.
Thirty five names. One guess a day, a rule that stranger had deemed fair.
This would be a lot harder than she thought.
