Cole watched as Cherrie faded before his eyes. He smiled knowing he would see her again.

‘Cole, Cole, come with me please.’ Mr Summers called to Cole, ‘I need Cherrie to be strong for her mother. Please help her.’

Cole felt the words more than heard them. They felt like the gentle autumn breeze brushing through the trees, like the softest touch of a kittens paw tapping your nose and Cole just knew his future with Cherrie was meant to be.  She really did exist and he would never stop searching for her.  She was his soul mate and he would find her, even if it would take forever.

As Cole stared unseeing at the television screen, instead of seeing the news he witnessed a funeral scene and there weeping beside a grave was Cherrie.  He watched silently as she held onto a woman who cried openly, their grief tore at his heart.

Cole wanted desperately to take them in his arms and comfort them. To be their strength, in this their time of sorrow, but he was unable to move. All he could do was whisper words of support to Cherrie.

‘Cherrie, I am here.’

As Cole watched Cherrie struggling with her grief, while trying to comfort her mother his heart tore apart. His need to reach out and hold her was so tangible he could almost taste it. Watching her sleeping beside her mother his thoughts revolved around her, reaching out to her. Even though he could visually see her in his mind’s eye her face remained a blur. Would he ever see her clearly?  Would he recognise her if he was to see her, really see her in the real world and not just in his dreams.

Cole could feel the constant surge of emotions Cherrie experienced, so entwined was their connection now, since her father had sought his assistance in reaching out to Cherrie. His confidence grew with each thought of Cherrie, knowing their paths would someday cross.

Cherrie was his destiny and he was hers. The reasons why he would never understand, or maybe one day when they finally met and really kissed for the first time, everything would become clear. But until then he just knew Cherrie was his soul mate and nothing and no one could prevent them from finding each other.

‘You are my destiny Cherrie and I will find you.’ His words echoed loudly through the room.

“Cole, are you okay?” the Nurse asked, hearing him call out.

Cole opened his eyes and stared at the Nurse.  He felt confused and uncertain in that instant, exactly where he was.  He had been so immersed in Cherrie’s grief.  Somehow he had to find out her surname, surely that would help him discover who she really was.

“Cole, are you alright?” the Nurse asked again seeing his confused expression, his brows knitting together so tightly forming deep furrows across his forehead.

“I’m fine thanks,” Cole muttered, feeling frustrated at being disturbed from his very realistic day dream.

“You were calling Cherrie again and talking about destiny.” The Nurse commented.

“Destiny …. Cherrie …. Mhmm.” His sister repeated as she walked into his room.

“What are you doing here now?” Cole asked her abruptly, remembering how she had laughed at him earlier when he mentioned Cherrie.  He did not wish to discuss this recent day dream with his sister, nor any other dreams he had of Cherrie, if that was the way she was going to react.

Natalie caught the agitation in her brother’s voice and immediately became concerned.

“Cole, I am really sorry I laughed at you earlier.  I now realise how important this woman Cherrie is to you. Regardless of whether or not she is just a dream, she seems to be someone really special and if there is any way in which I can help you find her, please let me.”

Cole stared at his sister not believing what he was hearing.

“Natalie, are you serious? You’re not just making fun of me again, are you?”

“No Cole.  If Cherrie is your destiny, then I want to help you find her.  I want to meet the woman who has stolen my brother’s heart in his dreams as well as his day time thoughts now too.”

Cole smiled, “Come here Sis, and give your big brother a much needed hug.”

Natalie laughed and hugged Cole.  Yes he would always be her brother, regardless that he was not her flesh and blood and she would do everything she possibly could to help him find Cherrie. If Cole felt that being with Cherrie was his destiny, then Natalie was going to make sure she supported him with whatever he wished to do to find her.
