Chapter Twenty-Seven
Leo swung his katana blade down on the pitch black tendril hurtling toward him, surprised when it passed right through but the thing slammed into his chest and knocked him over anyway. He grunted as he hit the ground, then grumbled. "Oh, great. We can't hit it, but it can hit us. What an unfair advantage." He dodged out of the path of another arm and turned to Donnie. "How did you and Mikey fight these things on Mobius?"
"We didn't fight these things," Donnie replied. "These arms are extensions of Dark Gaia. Mikey and I fought its minions."
"If the Dark Gaia Creatures were born from this monster, shouldn't fighting them be essentially the same?"
Donnie swung his bo like a baseball bat, missed, and was sent flying into a nearby chimney, the steel clanging loudly as his shell collided with it. "Obviously not!"

Shadow the Hedgehog raced up the steps of the Gaia Temple in Adabat, with the rest of his team close behind him. Upon reaching the inner chambers he turned to Rouge and held out his hand. "Emerald."
"Which one?"
"It doesn't matter!"
Rouge fished one of the Emeralds from the satchel Princess Sally had given her and tossed it to him. Shadow caught it and placed it in its receptacle, and then all three of them braced themselves as the Temple shook with restoration. After a minute or so the miniature earthquake stopped. Shadow nodded for the others to follow, and they did so as he raced right back out again, simple as that.
"Shouldn't there be a guard or something?" Rouge asked as they emerged outside once more. Shadow took her arm with one hand and placed the other on Omega's chest.
"Four of the seven locations are unguarded," he explained. "I'm taking care of the easy ones first."
"Sounds like a plan."
They teleported to the next location.

Mikey leapt off of the rooftop, swinging his nunchaku around to hang from as he attempted to use one of Dark Gaia's arms as a zip line. He let out a shocked yell when his weapon fell right through and he landed roughly on the pavement below. Thankfully it had been a fairly short drop.
Raph landed gracefully beside him. "Nice going, genius."
"When we fought the little versions of these we were able to hit them. I don't know why we can't hit this thing!"
The older Turtle had been keeping an eye on his other brothers on the opposite end of the street just in case. He glanced at them again, saw that they were mostly running away, and sighed. "We're supposed to be getting this thing back to where it came from, not inviting it in further. We'll never make any progress this way."
There was a pause as each of them thought about what to do. Mikey suggested, "Why don't we just close the portals?"
"Eh, that Eggman's probably got some way of keeping them open, and I'll bet that isn't on our world," Raph muttered. "Besides, I don't think severing this thing's limbs and leaving them here is a good idea." He searched the sky for the doctor's hovercraft, frowning in concentration. "But...we need to get him back to the other side, too. Maybe..." Mind now racing, he turned to his little brother. "Want to take a trip?"
Mikey's face lit up in understanding. "Oh, yeah!"

Shadow and Team Dark arrived in the biting cold land of Holoska and raced for the Temple as soon as they spotted which direction it was in. They had just entered the courtyard when there was a sudden, load roar, and the form of one of the Dark Gaia Monsters wrapped itself gracefully around the roof of its home. Team Dark took a fighting stance.
"What is that thing?" Rouge asked, taking in its snakelike form and dragon-like head and teeth.
Shadow growled. "It's about to be dead."

Kay watched the Turtles fight her battle and repeatedly get beaten down, and she cringed. She should be doing something to help them – she had the power to fight this evil properly. But she knew it would do no good for everyone to fulfill their duties and have her too burnt out to perform hers – and hers was the most important one. It would seal everything together, repair the massive damage Eggman had brought upon their worlds. Still, it felt wrong to just stand here and watch and wait her turn. The Chaos Energy in her veins urged her to take action now.
Just then one of Dark Gaia's arms that had reached especially far into her world began to reach directly for her. Out of the corner of her eye she just barely had time to notice Raph and Mikey hurl themselves onto Eggman's hovercraft before the tendril was sweeping towards her in an arc. Kay scrambled back but knew she wouldn't be able to escape its sweep without plunging herself off the roof. Just when she thought she was done for and was steeling herself for impact, she felt her feet fly off the ground and her head spin rapidly. She screamed at the unexpected act, but then it all stopped and she felt someone lower her to the ground again.
Expecting to see Leo or Donnie, Kay turned to her rescuer and gasped when she instead locked eyes with the cold, grey gaze of the Shredder's daughter. She took a step back in shock. "Karai!"

The Sky Patrol was parked at a safe distance away from the madness that was Dark Gaia's domain as the Freedom Fighters hurtled towards the monster to carry out their part of the mission. Even Cream was involved in this one, carrying Sally into the fray, her only duty to let go and catch when needed. Sally activated her swords and swiped at every black thing that flew in her direction.
Genesis Portals were open everywhere, and Dark Gaia's arms reached through several of them at once, attempting to slowly climb into the other world and destroy it as well. Chunks of continents hovered in the air all around it. The sky was dark. It was the worst possible scenario, but the Freedom Fighters were determined to put a stop to it all.
Tails yelped when Eggman's hovercraft suddenly burst through the Genesis Portal closest to him, carrying a yelling doctor and two Ninja Turtles back to Mobius.
"Whoa, what the?!" Mikey exclaimed upon seeing their new surroundings.
Raph grunted. "Great! Now we just gotta keep him here until the Mobians can do their part. Leo and Donnie will just have to fend for themselves for now." He turned to see Tails staring at him in surprise and scowled. "Little help here would be nice."
"Oh, right!" Tails shook his head to snap out of his reverie and used his twin tails as propellers to help push Eggman further back into his home world.

Kay could not believe her eyes. She eyed the Shredder's daughter suspiciously. "What are you doing here, Karai? I don't have the Emerald anymore."
"I don't care about the Emerald," Karai replied. "I am sorry. I was wrong to work for the doctor. He betrayed us and summoned this monster to destroy you and our world. I have never seen anything like it."
"I have," Kay muttered.
"I give you my word of honor that from this day forward, I will not promise my services to anyone who appears untrustworthy or...evil." Karai dipped her head and bowed at the waist slightly.
Kay smiled grimly, knowingthe promise would never do her any good. "The Turtles will appreciate that, I'msure." Then she turned her attention back to the battle at hand. She looked forRaph and Mikey, but they were nowhere to be found. Leo and Donnie were beingpushed back further and further with every passing moment. She rooted them onsilently. Them and the Mobians. "Come on guys. Let's finish this."
