Wednesday, the day before thanksgiving, Connor called me at 11 am. I'd been waiting to talk to him for so long and I was so excited that I fell out of my bed attempting to get my phone. On the floor, I leaned back against my bed and smiled as I answered.
"Hey," my body sort of melted when I heard his voice. I'd missed it way too much.
"Hey," I replied, grinning like crazy.
He laughed on the other end and I almost fainted. "Someone's happy."
"Yeah, me." I giggled.
"So, this whole, like, not talking thing... crazy, huh?"
"Yeah, crazy."
"Can I tell you I missed you?" he asked. I smiled.
"Sure."
"Okay... I missed you."
"I missed you too." I replied, picking at my flannel pj pants. He paused.
"So, uh, thanksgiving is tomorrow."
"Really?" I laughed, sarcastically.
"And, I want you to spend it with me." Connor said quietly. I couldn't stop smiling.
"Okay. When are you gonna pick me up?" I asked jokingly.
He surprised me when he replied quickly, "I could leave now."
"Now? You mean tomorrow?"
Connor was silent for a second. "Well, I was wondering... I mean hoping, if you'd come today and spend the night. It's a long drive and we might not have enough time to get you here tomorrow before dinner starts." he explained in a rush. "I can drive you back on Friday morning. I'd only be two nights and you can sleep in the extra room or something but I mean if you're not comfortable--"
"Connor!" I interrupted his rambling.
"Yeah?"
"That sounds fun." I could hear him smiling on the other end.
"Really?"
"Mhm."
"Awesome. Okay, so like I said, I can leave now and be there in about... four hours." he said.
"Four hours?" my mouth fell open. He had told me he lived in La Crescent, but I guess I hadn't realized how far that actually was.
"Yeah, that okay?" he laughed.
"Sure, it'll give me some time to get ready."
"Alright. I'll see you then."
"Bye." I smiled and hung up. As soon as I was off the phone, I jumped to my feet, a million thoughts running through my head. What should I wear? What should I pack? I'm spending the night at Connor's house, holy shit. Will his parents like me? Am I going to be meeting his siblings, too? How am I going to tell my mom...
I ran downstairs to find Sam watching TV with a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch on his lap. He looked over his shoulder at me and mumbled a 'hey'. I plopped down next to him and shoved my hand inside the box, taking a big handful.
"What's up?" I asked him between crunches.
"Reruns." he replied, lazily gesturing toward the screen. For some unknown reason, America's Next Top Model was my brother's favorite show. It wasn't even because of the 'hot girls'. He loved the drama and got really involved in rooting for his favorite girl. "I've seen this one a million times but it still pisses me off that Rachel gets sent home. I mean, yeah she's got an attitude, but she takes awesome pictures and her poses are way more complex than Alex's."
