*Connor's P.O.V*
I had been hesitant about going over to Jo's but I was glad I did. Spending the day with her was just was I needed to get my mind off things. But it got late and I had to leave her and return to reality back at campus.
Luckily, I had been able to finish my homework this morning before heading to Jo's so I planned to crash as soon as I reached the dorm. I was also successful in dodging Sam this morning since he had work, but it was around 8:30 now and knew he'd be back there and I'd have to face him.
I took a deep breath as I stood in front of 356. He had most likely calmed down enough to talk, but I wasn't sure if once we started talking he would keep his cool. The last thing I wanted to do was add to my healing black eye. My only goal was to hopefully resolve any conflict between he and I about my relationship with Jo. I wasn't going to back down and promise not to date her because I couldn't do that. I just wanted to reason with Sam and convince him our dating wouldn't be a bad thing. That I would treat her perfect.
"About time you're back." was my greeting from Sam as I stepped inside and locked the door behind me. I avoided his eyes and headed past him to my bed. He stood up from his place at the desk. "Well?"
"Well what?"
"Aren't you going to apologize?" a small laugh escaped me at these words. I looked up at Sam.
"Apologize for what?" I waited for him to step close to me but he surprisingly kept his distance, still standing by the desk across the room.
"For attacking me last night."
"Attacking you?!" I gaped incredulously at Sam.
"Yeah,"
"You hit her, Sam."
He looked down, straight faced. "She had no right-"
"Yes, she did. You were acting like a total dick. She's not a little girl anymore! She's smart enough to make her own decisions." I retorted, keeping my voice steady and my eyes focused on Sam. He said nothing for a long time so I turned, continuing to put away the movies from my bag.
"Was she hurt?" his question surprised me but I nodded and answered truthfully,
"She was more upset about hurting you," Sam raised his eyes to mine. "She was mad at herself for screaming at you and was scared you wouldn't forgive her."
"Wow," he breathed. "Really?" I nodded. There was another long silence as I sat down on my bed and ran a hand through my hair. Sam did the same over at his desk.
Finally I asked, "Why don't you want me and Jo together?"
"It's just... you're my friend... and she's my sister... and..." he sighed in reply.
"I get it." another pause. "So it's not that you don't trust me with her?"
Sam shook his head. "I don't trust anyone with her. After Dalton..."
"What even happened with him? Jo told me he was her ex, but,"
"He was jackass who got drunk and cheated on her at some party. Probably one of Mike's." Sam answered, anger lathering his voice. His words made me only want to punch Dalton in the face more.
"I hope you taught him a lesson." I said and Sam laughed.
"Oh I did,"
"Good."
There was another long silence before Sam said, "I thought you liked to get to know a girl before you dated." I stared at my lap and fiddled with my fingers. The truth was, I had thought about this a hundred times since I kissed Jo Friday night. We met a week ago. A week! Seven entire days and I had already taken her on a date and asked her to be my girlfriend. What was I thinking?! I hardly knew anything about this girl, but I had fallen head over heels for her. And I didn't even know why.
