The next two weeks were the longest of my life. I spent almost every night staying up later than I should've thinking and thinking and thinking. So many times, I would almost call Connor or text him. Then other times I would go to Lizzy's and we'd eat cookie dough and watch movies and I would completely forget him and the thanksgiving offer that was still on the table.

On Friday, after school, I went to Lizzy's. It was finally Thanksgiving break which meant we were out of school all next week. The same went for St. John's students which meant Sam was coming home and by home I meant to Lizzy's. We have this sleepover tradition involving lots of food and movies and board games and staying up late anytime our brothers come home for holidays.

Normally, I'd be psyched but the problem was I hadn't talked to Sam in two weeks; the night of the fight. Connor told me earlier that they'd talked about it, but I had procrastinated confronting him myself. Lizzy assured me that we could talk it out when he got back.

Finally, the boys came crashing through the front door. Zach hugged Lizzy first, then when he got to me, he gave me a cheeky grin. "Sooooo, you and Connor, eh?" My face felt suddenly very hot as my eyes widened. Zach was still laughing when Lizzy smacked his arm. He brought his hands up, surrendering. "Okay, okay sorry. But I intend to hear all the juicy details later." he said with a wink. I rolled my eyes then turned to Sam.

"I can help carry your stuff to the basement..." I offered him, quietly. He nodded in reply.

After climbing down a set of stairs to Lizzy's nice, finished basement, I set down Sam's bags and he set down Zach's. Then, we both stood, looking around and avoiding each other's eyes.

"It's good to be back." Sam said after a while. "I love it here."

"Its better than our house..." I agreed. Another awkward silence washed over us before Sam sighed and surprised me with a hug.

"Jo, I'm sorry. About everything." He said into my hair. "I talked it out with Connor and I apologized for yelling at him too. I was kinda out of line. I know it's not my place to tell you who you can or can't date... I was just trying to..."

"Protect me?" I guessed. Sam replied with an 'mhm'. "But you know you don't need to. He really is such a good guy, Sam."

"Yeah. I'm sorry for freaking out. Can we just like, forget this?" I nodded,
we separated and Sam gave me a smile before turning back to the stairs but I wasn't done yet.

"Hey, wait." I called to him. He turned back.

"Yeah?"

"So, Connor, uh, invited me to spend thanksgiving at his place." Sam raised his eyebrows as a small smile appeared on his face.

"Oh?"

"Yeah, I mean it would just be something fun, since it's not like our thanksgivings are that great."

"Agreed. Have you talked to Mom about it?"

"No," I paused. "I was hoping you could talk to her... she kinda thinks, uh, that Connor wants to have sex with me and then leave me." I was honestly sick of explaining the story but when Sam started to laugh, I had to join in. Admittidly, it sounded like a stupid theory now.

"She would." Sam replied simply. I looked up at him hopefully. "Yeah, I'll talk to her. I think you should go. You'd have fun."

I broke into a huge smile and hugged my brother. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

"You're welcome." he laughed.

The rest of the night consisted mostly of Zach and I watching stupid movies and eating a lot of food while trying to ignore Sam and Lizzy making out. It was always an uncomfortable situation but we were so used to it. Sometimes, Zach would even throw some popcorn at them or yell things like, "Get a room, horndogs."

When the two of them had passed out on top of one another, Zach brought up Connor.

"I'm a little behind, Jo. You gotta catch me up. I heard you kissed and invited you to his family thanksgiving."

"And where'd you hear this?" I asked, rolling my eyes.

He jerked his head toward Sam and Lizzy on the couch. "The reliable little sis." I nodded. "So are you going? To his thanksgiving, I mean."

"If Sam can convince my mom, yeah."

"I'm glad you found him." Zach said after a pause. "He's a good guy."

I laughed out loud. "Ostensibly."

Eventually, I fell asleep on Zach's huge bean bag with a bowl of chips on my lap halfway through Mean Girls. When I woke up, I was hungry and sore from the lumpy, makeshift bed. I grimaced at my reflection in the mirror of the half-bathroom downstairs.

Upstairs, Zach made everyone a large breakfast of bacon and eggs before Lizzy and I got ready and she dragged me to a movie.

The movie was Breaking Dawn Part One. I had never read any of the books or seen any other movies, but Lizzy was a complete Twilight enthusiast and I grudgingly agreed to go after making her promise to buy me candy and popcorn.

"You didn't tell me this was gonna be cute." I whispered to Lizzy as Bella walked down the isle to Christiana Perry's "A Thousand Years".

"Isn't her dress amazing!?" Lizzy whispered back, excitedly. I stopped paying attention shortly after the wedding. My mind was straying off to Connor; daydreaming about marrying him. I pictured my dress long and covered with ruffles and feathers... Connor in a tux... Holy shit, Connor in a tux?! Any guy in a tux was totally hot, but Connor? Oh dear...

This continued until the end where Bella was "birthing" the demon child. It was super gruesome and I had to look away several times while Lizzy was crying next to me. The worst part was all the screaming and blood and by the time it was done, I was regretting going to the movie in the first place.

"When they had to cut open her stomach-EW!" Lizzy squealed as we walked back to her car from the theatre. "But, Jacob at the end! He's so hot."  I zoned her out after a while, thinking about Connor again. Everything that happened in the movie somehow reminded me of him. Why couldn't I stop thinking about him?
