Nikolai frustratedly rubbed his temples as he sat behind his desk. He had spent years looking for a way to implement their revenge, and now they may finally have it.
But he wondered if they could really trust Celinia. Yes, she had saved them, and yes, she was the reason they had lived all these years, but something about her plan just didn't add up.
Perhaps she hadn't really changed.. maybe she also sought revenge on the Prince for having her locked away for so many years. He shook his head and sighed, thinking about all of this had done nothing but give him a headache.
Nikolai frowned then, hearing laughter coming from down the hall. He left his office and headed towards the living room. It was late, and he hadn't been expecting guests after Adriano had gone out for the night. He stopped, seeing Adriano sitting back on the sofa with another man he had not met before.
It was almost strange to see his brother so relaxed with anyone besides him. He cleared his throat and the man's head shot up to look at him. He quickly moved away from Adriano.
"M-master Nikolai, I wasn't aware of your presence." he said with a nervous smile.
He lifted a brow at him, "You're in my house."
He stuttered and Adriano rolled his eyes. "Relax, he's just messing with you." he said to the man and placed his hand on his leg, causing him to blush.
Nikolai's temper flared slightly at seeing this but he quickly pushed it back down, telling himself that it didn't bother him to see his brother finally being close to someone else. Adriano stood and held out his hand, to which the man gladly took and let him pull him up onto his feet. He stumbled slightly and fell into his arms. He laughed, "I'm blaming you for that."
Adriano shook his head and chuckled, "Not a chance," he said keeping him steady against his side, "Need a ride home?"
The man shook his head, "My driver should be here by now, but I will accept help getting out the door.." he slurred out and grinned up at him.
He gave a charming smile, "Of course," he said and guided him towards the hall, purposely ignoring his brother's intense stare.
Nikolai watched as they walked towards the door with the man still laughing and blushing at everything Adriano said to him. He opened the door when his driver pulled up and guided him down the front steps. The man turned and gave him a quick kiss on his lips before getting into the car and leaving.
Adriano came back inside and closed the door behind him. He walked past Nikolai and headed towards the stairs, "Good night, brother." he said, ignoring his now heated glare and clenched fists.
He walked into his room and pushed the door shut, but it was quickly caught by Nikolai as he slammed it open again.
"What the fuck was that!?"
Adriano shrugged, "I thought he was cute." he said taking off his jacket and throwing it on the bed.
Nikolai huffed, "Oh please, you don't find anything 'cute'."
He frowned, "What's got you so worked up? Aren't you the one that said I should go out for once?" he said tilting his head at him.
"You know that's not what I'm talking about." he forced out. "All this time you claim to have no interest in anyone else and then I walk in on your fucking date!?"
Adriano's frown only deepened as he slowly turned to him, "Anyone else? Is that what this is about?" he said taking a step closer to him.
He huffed, "You think I don't see what you really want? What you really need!?"
"You know nothing of what I want." he sneered at him.
Nikolai growled out and grabbed his arm, pulling him back to face him.
"I am what you want!"
Adriano gripped his shirt and pushed him up against the door. "You are not what I'm supposed to want, brother." he forced out.
And for the first time in a long time, he saw hurt cross his brother's features. "Why not?" he whispered out.
He was stunned. Did Nikolai really intend on returning his affections for him? Did it hurt him to think that he would force himself to be with someone else just to distract himself from his true feelings..?
No.
Adriano shook himself out of his thoughts and quickly let go of him. That didn't change anything. It was wrong to feel this way and he knew it.
"Go." he said turning his back to him. "We have an early day tomorrow."
Nikolai watched him for a moment before he turned and left silently. He took the few steps down the hall to his room and went in, kicking himself for acting that way in front of him.
There was no way Adriano would open up to him now. He had given up on trying to make him jealous with both men and women, and all his attempts to bait him into it had failed. Was there really something wrong with him for wanting to be with the person he had already spent his entire life with?
He pushed it out of his mind to save both of them the trouble, and concentrated on tomorrow instead. They would finally be leaving for the castle. One step closer to their goal.
He sighed and ran his hand over his face, "It's time."
******
Nikolai groaned as one of their extremely persistent servants continued to knock on his door.
He dragged himself out of bed and went to the door. He pulled it open, "What!?"
The startled woman stuttered as she looked up at him, "M-master Adriano had requested that I inform you that you two would need to leave soon.."
"By knocking on my door 50 times!?"
"Y-yes Sir. I was to knock until you woke."
He sighed, "Fine, I'm awake. Now leave." he said and slammed the door shut.
An hour later he came downstairs muttering frustratedly to himself. He headed outside to see their bags being loaded into the car and Adriano already leaning against the car door, waiting for him.
He marched up to him, "What the fuck is wrong with you!? Normal people don't enjoy waking up with a headache at 5 in the fucking morning!"
He gave him a blank stare from behind his dark sunglasses followed by the slightest smirk, showing his satisfaction in Nikolai's reaction to the wake up call. Adriano then simply turned around and got into the car, purposely increasing his brother's agitation with him.
Nikolai grunted and went around to the other side of the car before getting in and glaring at him. "You need some serious help, brother."
"Shut up. I have a headache." he said and leaned back in his seat.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, knowing it was pointless. Adriano always knew exactly how to get on his last nerve without even trying.
Soon they pulled up to their private hangar and boarded their jet to leave for Urbem Regiam.
Adriano stared out the window in silence for a moment, "Brother."
"Mmm?" Nikolai said absent-mindedly as he focused on his laptop.
"You really still think we'll see her again?" he said softly.
He slowly shut his laptop and turned to him, "Have you ever doubted that she'll come back?"
"No."
"Good, because I'd throw your ass off this plane in mid air if you did." he said and reopened his laptop.
Adriano smiled before his face turned serious again, "Listen, Nik-"
"One problem at a time, brother. What happened can wait, right now we have a mission to complete."
He gave a single nod and adjusted his glasses as he turned back to look out the window.
"Yes, brother."
